Drinking challenge - bad timing

Sophie0579 · 12/04/2020 22:46

There’s a challenge going round on Instagram of people downing a beer or glass of wine in one go and nominating their friends to do it. It seems in bad taste at this current time, when people are desperately working on the front line & putting their lives at risk with long hours and they come home to see that other idiots are using their time posting stupid videos of them downing an alcoholic drink! Seems a bit thoughtless in the circumstances. Not to mention that this is bad role modelling for our teenagers & a trend for this in 2014 resulted in some deaths. I don’t think we should all be doom and gloom but post positive, healthy things not irresponsible videos like this. I think people should be called out on this stupid challenge

Meh

TheMobileSiteMadeMeSignup · 12/04/2020 22:51

Is there? I've not seen it at all, maybe you need to not follow idiots on Instagram.

Namechanger20183110 · 12/04/2020 22:53

Meh?? People can die from doing this, it's idiotic beyond words.

charliess · 12/04/2020 22:54

"Is there? I've not seen it at all, maybe you need to not follow idiots on Instagram."

Yeah I think you're right! Unfollow!

ChandlerIsTheBestFriend · 12/04/2020 22:55

Do you really think those on the front line aren’t necking back the wine too when they get home?

Unclench.

Seriously.

justAnotherOpinion33 · 12/04/2020 22:56

Chill out mate

charliess · 12/04/2020 22:57

No I don't think workers on the front line are necking back alcohol for a challenge after a long shift. They're knackered and ready for the next shift tomorrow whilst these idiots are doing a thoughtless/dangerous challenge

FranklySonImTheGaffer · 12/04/2020 22:59

🙄
Pointless thread. Just unfollow people / delete SM if it bothers you. People have been stuck in their houses when they would normally be socialising so this is just an example of (mostly younger) people doing what they would do with their mates on a bank holiday weekend 🤷‍♀️

Anoisagusaris · 12/04/2020 22:59

Can you actually die from downing a single beer or glass of wine in one go???

Sounds like a silly craze, but then all those challenges are. I really don’t get them. But then I don’t get posting positive healthy things on social media either. Social media is such a load of shite.

ChandlerIsTheBestFriend · 12/04/2020 23:03

No I don't think workers on the front line are necking back alcohol for a challenge after a long shift.

I didn’t say for a challenge. Naughty.

charliess · 12/04/2020 23:04

It's not mostly young people, it's actually mostly guys in their 30's.

No people don't die from one drink but our teenagers try over and over to replicate and it leads to alcohol poisoning. Neknominate lead to deaths remember

charliess · 12/04/2020 23:06

Chandleristhebestfriend. You are totally missing the point. I don't begrudge a frontline working having a drink after a shift. What I object to is in the original post

ChandlerIsTheBestFriend · 12/04/2020 23:06

FLWs are not one homogenous mass of paragons of virtue upholding a higher behavioural standard than the rest of us. There are dumb fucks, alcoholics, stressed out folk amongst them just as they exist amongst the rest of the population. Plenty of them will be drinking far more than normal and some of them will even do this challenge.

ChandlerIsTheBestFriend · 12/04/2020 23:08

Charliess are you the OP under a namechange fail?

ChandlerIsTheBestFriend · 12/04/2020 23:09

I think people should be called out on this stupid challenge

What’s stopping you?

charliess · 12/04/2020 23:10

Same poster. It's not hidden, you can see that from the same colour as original poster. Just Log in issues

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 12/04/2020 23:14

How do people die from necking a pint unless they drown😱

OmgThereAreNoPlanesAboveMeNow · 12/04/2020 23:17

Ah. I missed it. Well if anyone gives themselves alcohol poisoning because they were trying to imitate some insta challenge then... Well. Natural selection🤷🏻
However, your point about key workers seeing
stupid videos people made in their free time. Come on...

ChandlerIsTheBestFriend · 12/04/2020 23:17

Confused your posts are not highlighted for the rest of us now that you’ve name changed.

Madein1995 · 12/04/2020 23:21

How do people die from necking a glass of wine? It's hardly the same as downing a bottle of vodka

alibongo5 · 12/04/2020 23:27

Speaking as someone who works in the NHS, yes, sometimes when I see posts about how to spend all your free time etc, it can irk a bit. But this would be no more than that. It isn't saying to drink an excessive amount either. And yes, I neck more than my fair share when I can! Can't really see a problem.

FromEden · 12/04/2020 23:32

Meh?? People can die from doing this, it's idiotic beyond words.

I can 100% guarantee that not one person is going to die from knocking back a single glass of wine or beer. Get a grip

Are these posts moaning about people doing anything enjoyable wind ups or what? Or this what the UK has become these days?

TrainspottingWelsh · 12/04/2020 23:33

I understand that all the 'discusted' post topics have been done to death, but surely you could have found something a little more worthy to get your knickers in a twist about?

BelfastNonBlonde · 12/04/2020 23:36

Lighten up OP. Jeez.

Somerford · 12/04/2020 23:38

I think people should be called out on this stupid challenge

Get on with it then.
