Amazon Delivery Drivers

I've just had an Amazon Delivery driver ask to be let in our building (block of flats) so he could leave a parcel outside the neighbours door.
Why are they working on Easter Sunday?! I really thought Christmas and Easter were the only two days of the year where everything closed.
I felt so sorry for him! I looked out the window and he had a car full (and I mean couldn't see out the back window) of parcels.
I know he may get the option to work or not on Easter Sunday, but it baffles me why there can't be a few days of everything being closed.
Shame on Amazon.

I don't identify as Christian. I do identify, however, as someone who doesn't think everyone should be able to buy ten tins of Fosters and 20 Rothmans every single fucking day of the year. Except Christmas, of course.

Delivery drivers are working today. I've had an Amazon delivery too

as the majority of the population of England identify as Christian

Not sure that's really true any more.
In the 2017 British Social Attitudes survey, less than half identified as having any sort of religion.

It's high time the religious minority stopped trying to impose their beliefs and restrictions on everyone else.

Why not? How does that affect your life in any way?

We seem to get the same Amazon driver each time. We have Prime and use it a lot. Our driver said he is glad to be working and will have time off when things calm down, DH, a doctor is working today. Normal Sunday.

As I wrote earlier, I work in a supermarket. Open 7am -10pm every day of the week and year, except Christmas.

People really don't need to shop 364 days a year, especially when their shopping consists solely of booze and fags every single day. Even now. When we're supposed to be doing essential shopping only.

Forgive me, but it's making me a bit angry right now.

Spot on Errol. Very few people fully observe Easter (if so I assume they shouldn't be out shopping Grin). Less than half the population shouldn't dictate these holidays.

I ordered some stuff of Amazon on Friday evening and didn't expect it until next week. It arrived half an hour ago.

PumpkinP · 12/04/2020 18:29

Well I’m still getting a Tesco’s shop today so it’s no different to that (if it actually shows up 😒 )

PineappleDanish · 12/04/2020 18:36

Shops aren't closed on Easter Sunday in Scotland. Lots of people don't celebrate Easter, it's just another Sunday. And for a lot of us, every day is pretty much the same at the moment anyway.

boylovesmeerkats · 12/04/2020 18:56

I think it's terrible and don't feel bad for wanting other people to have better working conditions. Especially in this lockdown, I can't get over how people comfortable in their homes are happy for people to be working in warehouse and getting on the roads because they want something they probably don't really need. I hate buying from Amazon anyway, but so many people have prime and see it as a way of life to get what they want when they want no matter the cost to anyone. We should all think about that sort of thing. Happy Easter to you by the way.

Ghostlyglow · 12/04/2020 20:37

@boylovesmeerkats it's probably easier to take the moral high ground when you have, or have easy access to everything you need

boylovesmeerkats · 12/04/2020 21:10

Most people have access to everything they need. If Amazon was only delivering stuff people need to people that can't get it anywhere else they wouldn't be making billions, the reality is that people can buy any old crap with one click and it's delivered before you even have to think about it or change your mind. I've bought plenty off Amazon but found myself buying more and more rubbish, it's their USP.

Amazon have always delivered on a Sunday

Ellisandra · 12/04/2020 23:30

Always get these people up in arms about others visibly working on a day like today.
Are you going to go without your delivery tomorrow OP, so that the people picking the orders today to be ready for delivery tomorrow can also work the day off?

19lottie82 · 12/04/2020 23:32

Chances are he’s an amazon flex
Driver. You log onto an app and it offers you shifts, if you want them them then you take them. I don’t see what the big deal is?
