To be fed up of the "am I allowed?" threads

No, you're not allowed to go for a drive because your PFB only naps in the car. Nor are you allowed to sit and eat on a bench because you're pregnant, or go to your DM's if you stand 2m from the door.

What is it that people aren't getting? It's like they think that they are the exception to the very simple rules, and it's doing my head in.

Obey the guidelines ideally, but if you don't then don't come on here and ask for validation that your situation is soooo different to everyone else's, when any idiot can see that you're in the wrong.

OP posts:
ChicChicChicChiclana · 12/04/2020 01:16

Counciltaxquery - what if I gave up my right to have an hour's exercise outside of my home every day, and only went out twice a week? But on those days I stopped off at my Mum's house during that hour and spoke to her for five minutes from her front garden? Would that be ok?

GlummyMcGlummerson · 12/04/2020 02:36

TBH I'm sick of busybody threads like this more than anything.

Also re the sitting on a bench - if you're pregnant and going for a one hour walk in this heat are you really suggesting that they can't stop and sit down for a rest?

Fucking curtain twitchers are creaming in their knickers over their ability to finally be a complete nosy prick under the guise of "its because I care".

GlummyMcGlummerson · 12/04/2020 02:38

And of course you can speak to your mum from a distance if you're passing her house. I bump into neighbours all the time on walks, and have chats over 2m apart. What do you do OP - jump into a bush and scream "stay away!!"?

Thepigeonsarecoming · 12/04/2020 03:04

Actually @counciltaxquery the “law” does not prohibit people from driving, nor sitting on a bench for a rest or talking to a family member or friend (while observing social distancing). You are making up laws and a lot of people are equally fed up of people like you (mumsnet self appointed police)

www.itv.com/news/2020-04-10/how-do-the-coronavirus-lockdown-rules-differ-across-the-uk/

“But none of the laws in force in any part of the UK address the use of cars or vehicles at all and do not forbid members of the public from using their cars to “go for a drive” or travel to a location by car to exercise.“

BritWifeinUSA · 12/04/2020 06:13

There is no time limit on exercise from what I’m reading. I’m not in the UK so only have news websites and gov.uk website as my sources of information. All of them say “one form of exercise”. With no time specification. What’s “one form of exercise”? A marathon? Taking the bins out? Mowing the lawn? I have no idea why so many think it’s an hour of exercise.

EricaNernie · 12/04/2020 06:15

its like posters think mumsnet is an Authority on the matter.
tis annoying,
though i think i might be guilty of asking a question myself Wink

VladmirsPoutine · 12/04/2020 06:20

These threads are worse than the 'can I buy an Easter egg and take it to my SIL or will I be arrested' threads.

Just hide and move on.

Corona virus threads are basically Mumsnet on acid.

Oblomov20 · 12/04/2020 06:23

Even here there are disagreements on what the Corona recommendations are!

I laughed when pp asked : what do you do if you see someone you know: 'jump in a bush'? Grin

CtrlU · 12/04/2020 06:25

I’m bored of the whole CV threads on here. Full of bored nobodies and curtain twitchers making assumptions about neighbours or cars they see driving by that somehow don’t seem ‘essential’.

Tini17 · 12/04/2020 06:25

@counciltaxquery perhaps you should read up and digest the guidance and indeed the relevant laws before starting a busybody thread and dishing out wrong advice?
As PPs have said, there is no law on limit on exercise, people are allowed to sit down on benches and talk to vulnerable relatives from appropriate distance. Shock, horror.

Noconceptofnormal · 12/04/2020 06:27

Agree that these threads are worse.

I'm not comparing the Coronavirus situation to things like the Holocaust or the Cultural Revolution, but next time you think that sort of thing couldn't happen here, remember the curtain twitchers, the ones who report their neighbours for breaking the rules, and those who gain moral superiority from yelling at people for sitting on a park bench for a couple of minutes.

speakout · 12/04/2020 06:29

I go out several times a day- yesterday once to pick up a prescription and food, and two were forest walks. I live surrounded by countryside and I can walk for miles without even seeing another person.
I don't care if the rulz tell me otherwise.
I am putting no one at risk.

ToManderleyAgain · 12/04/2020 06:31

The legislation is here for anyone who wants to go directly to source: www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2020/350/regulation/6/made

Tigeerqueen · 12/04/2020 06:33

Ugh. Of course you can take your child for a drive round the block. It's all about breaking the chain so the virus cant spread not rigidly following the rules or competitive misery.

yearinyearout · 12/04/2020 06:38

I'm more fed up of the "just stay home" MN police who just repeat it like a mantra without actually using their own brain to think about a specific situation and whether it creates any risk.

PhilCornwall1 · 12/04/2020 06:41

If people need to ask a bunch of strangers on the internet "can I do this?" They are either as thick as shit or just doing it for attention.

Personally I couldn't give a flying fuck if my neighbours have two walks instead of one, buy a pot of non-essential paint and Easter eggs, or decide to dance naked in the street 2cm apart all day.

TimeForDinnerDinnerDinner · 12/04/2020 06:42

I agree OP.
It's not just on MN either, it's all over different social media groups too.
People are worried, scared and confused. Times are weird at the mo so everyone wants to check and get reassurance that they're going about things the right way. Those that slip up are frightened that the consequences could be serious (which they could).
There's loads of falsehoods flying round at the mo too about causes, treatments, preventative methods and about the disease itself.
What I can't understand personally is the people who continually and knowingly flout the rules, but think it's ok because of x, y or z. Especially when it's the gov ministers who created those rules in the first place! I mean WTAF Hmm

myself2020 · 12/04/2020 06:43

So far i heard that i’m not allowed to food shop for my elderly neighbour because its not necessary (apparently the council will step in??)
And definitely not allowed to speak to him while keeping a distance. its apparently not necessary for lonely people to have social interactions.
Use your brain, don’t make stuff up, and do what is necessary. being miserable is not going to make the virus going away, reducing contagion is.

Ethelfleda · 12/04/2020 06:48

I think some people are having a tougher time adjusting than others, and it’s human nature to try and find a ‘safe’ way to see your loved ones. I get it - they shouldn’t... but I’ve come to learn over the past few weeks that being nasty to people doesn’t help anyone, in either situation.

We aren’t all the same - we don’t all process information in the same way so yes, some people will find it harder to understand the rules than others. It is what it is, and I don’t think trying to stop others from seeking validation of their own thoughts and actions is necessarily helpful.

GoldenOmber · 12/04/2020 07:11

That’s the flip side of so many MN posters acting like they’re an authority on The Rules.

FloggingMoll · 12/04/2020 07:18

@Noconceptofnormal I said something similar to my other half the other night and yes, in the earliest days of lockdown I was obsessing about why my neighbour was going out several times a day.

I drew a breath though when a Facebook acquaintance shared a link to our local police force, and recommended reporting local infractions of the CV laws. That pulled me up short.

If the sort of people who scream bloody murder about a pregnant woman sitting on a bench for 5 minutes were to report that woman to the police, we're not far away from reporting the neighbours for disobeying the Party.

Umnoway · 12/04/2020 07:21

This is worse than those thread. You just sound ridiculously sanctimonious.

Carbosug · 12/04/2020 07:26

Ridiculous posters on both end of the spectrum in my opinion. Some liken anyone who wants to report a genuine concern about reckless behavior that could sped up the spread of the virus to Nazi informers.
Others seem th think no one should leave their house apart from a fortnightly trip to Tesco. And even then if you put a packet of chocolate hobnobs in your trolley you're not taking the whole thing seriously.

Both behaving like silly schoolkids.

carriebreadshaw · 12/04/2020 07:26

But you can say hi to your mum 2 metres from the door if you walked there, why not? These threads are more annoying because you're not actually looking for answers or support - it comes across as bragging that you're handling the crisis better than some others.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 12/04/2020 07:32

I think a lot of people have confused lockdown with punishment. Of course you can visit older relatives and stand 2m away. It's a welfare check. Nor do you have to live on plain pasta and tap water. We're in this situation because there's a disease, not because we've been naughty. And in my local Aldi the easter eggs and fancy hot cross buns were in baskets right by the door where you waited to go in, so fill your boots.
