To leave chocolate outside overnight

DS is 3 so this is the first year I've done a proper egg hunt. I've just been out hiding 20 (small) chocolate eggs in the garden. Then on the way in I had the thought that I might attract rats or something by leaving food out.

Do I need to get them back in and re-hide first thing tomorrow?

spiders will definitely be dragging their willy’s along them

Lol Grin

ForeverBubblegum · 11/04/2020 22:34

The eggs are in, I'm feeding baby so had to send DH out for a moon lit egg hunt. Fortunately DS is not overly observant, so they were more scattered then hid.

Do they have to be hidden in the garden?? I've hidden all ours round the downstairs of the house. Their Easter bonnets and baskets are waiting at the bottom of the stairs for the hunt to begin as soon as we head down.

The Easter bunny gets in the house the same way Father Christmas does apparently according to us! Grin

saturdaynightgin · 11/04/2020 22:39

We’ve left ours outside. Didn’t even think of all of the above Blush

PatchworkElmer · 11/04/2020 22:40

I’m going to get up about 10 minutes before DS’s normal wake up time to hide his- don’t want to risk them getting messed up. He’s also 3 and quite excited this year, and I don’t mind indulging him a bit because lockdown has frankly sucked and he’s been so good about it thus far.

snappycamper · 11/04/2020 22:40

Me too Saturdaynightgin. Not bothering to go out and get them in now. Sod it.

TheEndIsBillNighy · 11/04/2020 22:42

@Rebelwithallthecause I just scoffed at the spiders dragging their willies over them comment 🤣🤣

I’m getting up early and hiding them. Can’t wait to get up at the absolute crack, just to beat my early risers 😳

QuaffthisKindNepenthe · 11/04/2020 22:43

Mice in particular love chocolate

toothlesspete · 11/04/2020 22:43

I've put ours out already too! They are in little
Plastic eggs... you've all got me worried now!!

Yesmate · 11/04/2020 22:46

Mine are out. All in foil, didn’t even consider it would be a problem. It’s going to go hot again tomorrow so he can go out and find them first thing before they melt!

Lindy2 · 11/04/2020 22:46

Our local foxes are probably having a sugar feast if anyone around here has put eggs out already.

Tomorrow morning would be much safer.

CodenameVillanelle · 11/04/2020 22:49

Ew gross! Sorry but that's vile. You're going to let your children eat chocolate that all kinds of wildlife have been at all night Envy

KittyMcTitty · 11/04/2020 22:49

@Rebelwithallthecause I laughed so loud at the spiders I frightened my husband

Fromthebirdsnest · 11/04/2020 22:49

I'm going to do it in the morning my kids don't get up until gone 10 though a fox would definitely eat them here or piss on them here , if I had to for early risers is put them in plastic sealable bags x

mumwon · 11/04/2020 22:50

I am Imagining op turning up at a & e & having to explain that her dc ate a slug with e egg on an egg hunt & will he be ok (be a bit of light relief for them)

Thescrewinthetuna · 11/04/2020 22:50

Spider dicks, snail gunge and rat piss? Nooooooo. Defo don’t leave them out!

QuixoticQuokka · 11/04/2020 22:51

My cat would steal them and bring them inside at three in the morning with her 'I've brought you a present' miaow. It doesn't matter if it's people food she doesn't like herself.

chipsandgin · 11/04/2020 22:52

I disinfected the shopping today on our front lawn, bought an armful in, went outside and a crow eaten half had a pizza! We also saw a couple of rats walking down the middle of the street the other day (in an empty town centre!)! That and cats marking their territory by spraying, foxes, ants, slugs, snails....just no!

Pipandmum · 11/04/2020 22:54

A few years ago my son convinced me that we should hide everything the evening before. I thought I had put everything out of reach of any critters but they got about 70%. Lesson learned.

CyberNan · 11/04/2020 22:55

you let him hunt eggs at 6 in the morning...?

he's 3 ffs

having said that, he probably wont notice the snail trails all over his eggs..

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 11/04/2020 22:56

It has been so warm where we are (Devon) that I daren't even hide mine early as by the time all 3 DC have fucked about, got downstairs, had breakfast etc it'll be gone 10 and it'll all be melted.

Instead, DD1 is going to decorate her Easter basket whilst I "hang the laundry out".

ContessaferJones · 11/04/2020 22:56

Mr Foxy ate ours last year - he crunched through the plastic eggs Sad

We are making an early morning run!!

womaninatightspot · 11/04/2020 22:57

One of our kids is the Easter bunny he's drawn a map and planned where to hide the eggs. He's even written clues in case someone needs help. Not hiding them till tomorrow. Obv someone else will hide his one. It'll be done mid morning so easter eggs for elevenses.

Feel like this is a win win, slightly educational, and no effort required :)

bamboothrough · 11/04/2020 22:57

We’ve left ours out, along with paper clues which probably won’t last either

PickAChew · 11/04/2020 22:57

Our garden is full of mice by sunset. I wouldn't leave it out.
