To leave chocolate outside overnight

DS is 3 so this is the first year I've done a proper egg hunt. I've just been out hiding 20 (small) chocolate eggs in the garden. Then on the way in I had the thought that I might attract rats or something by leaving food out.

Do I need to get them back in and re-hide first thing tomorrow?

Yes.

igglypop · 11/04/2020 22:17

We are putting ours out in the morning. A fox ate my friends eggs last year!

bettybattenburg · 11/04/2020 22:18

Yes.

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 11/04/2020 22:18

Even if the worst that happens is they get snail trailed on, ew.

Rebelwithallthecause · 11/04/2020 22:18

I’d hide them in the morning.
Even if animals don’t eat them, slugs will probably crawl all over them and spiders will definitely be dragging their willy’s along them

Sparklesocks · 11/04/2020 22:18

I wouldn’t risk it, it’s definitely something I can imagine mice/rats chewing on - or a passing fox or cat could decide to have a wee there!

Pamlaaaa · 11/04/2020 22:18

Bring them in. I’d put them out tomorrow just before the egg hunt.

Winter2020 · 11/04/2020 22:18

When I was in the garden a couple of days ago there were ants crawling around. I would put them out just before the hunt.

edwinbear · 11/04/2020 22:18

I don’t think I’d leave food outside overnight that my DC would then eat, no. I’d be worried about rats & foxes too, but also what if it rains?

Oysterbabe · 11/04/2020 22:18

They will 100% get eaten by rodents.

TheEnormousCroc · 11/04/2020 22:18

Definitely rats in our garden (small market town) as I discovered when I put out one of those fat balls for the birds and got up at 5am to see two of the fuckers eating it.

I would go and get them in!

WorraLiberty · 11/04/2020 22:19

Christ, they'll be crawling with ants after sunrise.

Justgorgeous · 11/04/2020 22:20

I have hidden 20 plastic eggs in the garden and then a few chocolate eggs in the house.

ghostyslovesheets · 11/04/2020 22:20

NO they will get DARKED ON!

Bringonspring · 11/04/2020 22:20

Yes of course.

Thisismytimetoshine · 11/04/2020 22:20

Yes. I have a fox in my garden right now, the dog charging outside every ten minutes when he hears a rustle is not putting the little bugger off coming back, for some reason Confused
There's no chocolate out there either Grin

Tiddlytubbies · 11/04/2020 22:22

Sorry but yes I would get them back in, good luck finding where you hid them all 😂🙈 I would definitely be worried about wildlife getting at them! Have a lovely day with him tomorrow 😊

TW2013 · 11/04/2020 22:25

Yes one of you distracts while the other one hides them.

ForeverBubblegum · 11/04/2020 22:26

Plastic eggs would probably have been the way to go. DS tends to wake up between 5-6, so it looks like I'll have a very early morning if I need to be up in time to reset.

DappledThings · 11/04/2020 22:26

We are going to put some out tomorrow. But then we've just told.our two that we are going to. Never mentioned any bunny.

It was only on MN I learnt that people actually do the Easter Bunny thing. Along with Father Christmas brings all presents.

Petiolaris · 11/04/2020 22:27

Rain, dew, ants, rats... you can’t leave food outside overnight then eat it! Slugs in particular will go crazy for chocolate.

Sparklesocks · 11/04/2020 22:29

It will be great OP, he’ll love it Smile

Wilmalovescake · 11/04/2020 22:29

This is bonkers!
Do it after lunch. Afternoon egg hunt. He’s 3, stop making a rod for your own back.

SpicedCamomile · 11/04/2020 22:30

I've always just hidden them while the kids waited impatiently inside in the morning. I wouldn't leave them overnight. Do you remember where you put them though? We always lose a few because I can't remember where I hid them.

oncemorewithfeeling99 · 11/04/2020 22:32

We always do ours after lunch. Definitely not getting up early for hiding! Why not leave one small egg on the table and a note saying that Easter bunny will be back to deliver some more and check back at 3pm
