I don't have a choice!

I work in a supermarket convenience store. I'm sick of this 'Thank you to key workers' nonsense with everyone jumping on the band wagon!

I'm not risking my life voluntarily. I am still working because I HAVE NO CHOICE. I don't have the choice to stay home. I have to go to work otherwise I'll be sacked! If I have no job, I have no money and can't provide for my family.

Please stop thanking me, I don't want to be working, I don't want to be risking my life as well as that of my family.

Most other retail workers are probably in the same position.

I get that.
But people are just trying to be nice.
There’d be similar threads moaning if people weren’t saying thank you...

Sennetti · 11/04/2020 21:37

It’s not even sincere
Retail staff are treated like shit

I agree with the above poster. People are just trying to be nice. If they were saying nothing then that would probably be wrong too!

NHS here. I feel the same way sometimes. Thank god DH is furloughed and has totally taken over at home, or else I wouldn't be coping with the stupidly long hours I am working.

Jesus, there are more threads moaning about about being thanked lately, than there are are about the actual bloody virus.

How about we say "Thank you to all keyworkers except RiskyRetail'?
