To think some people are just loving it?

So many people seem to be taking so much pleasure in being absolutely furious with everyone else at the moment and I’m just amazed by it.

I live in a very touristy town, our local FB page is currently full of posts of people who have searched car registrations in their road and found some that aren’t registered to the area. Dozens of posts with photos of people queuing up outside co-op asking whether everyone will only be buying essentials, photos of very elderly sat on a bench saying that they might as well just kill themselves now, couples holding hands clearly being ABSOLUTE SELFISH B*S!!

All these posts followed by so many angry comments and talk of slashing tyres, complaining about hearing Midlands or London accents, comments that police should be throwing kids in prison.

I know it’s a scary time. It’s absolutely unprecedented and we’re underprepared and walking into the unknown. But I genuinely find the sheer rage that seems to be coming from some people quite frightening. I have to take my kids with me whenever I leave the house and I just know that someone will comment on it soon. I only have a tiny courtyard of outside space so I’m taking dc on a long walk with me every morning. Dc2 is only just 4 but I feel I can’t give him a drink as we’re walking along in case someone accuses us of having a picnic.

Is anyone else concerned by this? Anything I can do at all?

The Stasi are alive and well during this.

Toddlerteaplease · 11/04/2020 16:46

My sister lives In The village where a District nurse had their tyres let down. She says the locals are awful at the minute. Anyone they don't recognise is getting the fourth degree about who they are and where they live.

ButterbuttSquash · 11/04/2020 16:50

I live in the same kind of town as you. FB page the same. (Could be the same town). I think they’re really really enjoying finally having an ‘excuse’ to witch-hunt non-locals.

TheEndIsBillNighy · 11/04/2020 16:51

Yes I’m finding it horrifying how vile some people are being. Especially those oversimplifying how awful life must be for some people living in less than ideal circumstances.

I’m not on FB, but my friends have told me about our village page and how awful people are being. A lovely individual has set up (with friends) a window Easter egg hunt & advertises this on the group...people have responded telling them they don’t want children walking around the village, not least “because they’re not allowed anyway”. I honestly despair.

Dreamersandwishers · 11/04/2020 16:51

Oh gosh yes OP. Lots of opportunities to judge, snitch, and generally be nasty. I am so tired of village spokespeople screaming or signposting ‘stay away’ then in the next breath asking for support for their businesses.
Let the police do their job in stopping traffic, lock down infringements etc.

mbosnz · 11/04/2020 16:58

They're not doing themselves any good at all, it's terrible for their mental health, and for some, I imagine, a very real risk to their physical health, given how worked up they're getting.

RhymingRabbit3 · 11/04/2020 17:02

Just carry on OP. If your 4 year old needs a drink just give him one, and ignore anyone who accuses you of having a picnic. They're being ridiculous.

I think people are bored and underneath and scared. It's coming out in a very negative way for a lot of people and its unpleasant.

midsomermurderess · 11/04/2020 17:17

It's horrible and there is some total battiness here too, fury, rage, condemnation. You can't control the behaviour of others so it's pointless to be so incensed. I agree, some people seem to be enjoying it, assuming the worst of others while feeling quite marvellously virtuous about themselves. There is a real element of malice sometimes too. It's just horrible.

iklboo · 11/04/2020 17:19

Some idiots people are definitely making up their own 'laws' or wilfully misinterpreting the guidance.

IndecentFeminist · 11/04/2020 17:31

Yup, some people are idiots. Twas ever thus.

HandfulOfFlowers · 11/04/2020 17:35

Some people are thriving on it because their normal lives are very dull.

lemontreebird · 11/04/2020 17:40

Is that in the South-West, @PoppliosBubble?

PositiveVibez · 11/04/2020 17:41

Some people are absolutely revelling in being annoyed.

It's very odd.

It's like these people think everyone should be dressed in sackcloth, whipping themselves with a cat-o'-nine-tails if they have any impure thoughts (i.e. picking up wine or chocolate at the same time as shopping for essentials)

SoleBizzz · 11/04/2020 17:43

Were you outside whilst typing this post?

RuffleCrow · 11/04/2020 17:45

Gosh that sounds awful.

FrankieKnuckles · 11/04/2020 17:49

Haven't RTFT but this is what I cannot believe we've stood for: everyone horrified by each other. The police seem proud but why?

SilverOtter · 11/04/2020 17:54

Certain individuals in my village have been shouting about getting the footpaths closed. Because that's really going to help...restricting the area in which we can all exercise🙄

cologne4711 · 11/04/2020 17:57

You can't find out where a car is registered to. All it tells you is various car related info like model and engine size and whether it has a current MOT and tax disk.

Hopefulmidwife · 11/04/2020 17:59

@Toddlerteaplease what was the outcome of that? Did they realise she was a nurse and came out and admitted it?

We have a complete arsehole whew we are. He sits on his balcony with his binoculars in order to see if people are keeping correct distant measures. Also, if you are more than 1, he calculates how much space your using up and tells the people on the group how unreasonable you are - so a family of 4 playing football as their exercise is a no no.

BubblyBarbara · 11/04/2020 18:05

Same sort of mentality that caused a lot of the tribal nuttiness around Brexit as well. This isn’t happening in Harrogate or Richmond..

FiveGoMadInDorset · 11/04/2020 18:06

My brother and sister in law got told to fuck off back where they live the other day, my brother has lived in the village for 30 years

Oh wow, I bet he's great fun at parties! Grin

PickleSarnie · 11/04/2020 18:07

Yes. The spotting and shaming and the virtue signalling have replaced the constant posts of “I’ve just seen a white transit van on the street with registration xyz…. and the driver is a bit foreign looking”. And it’s the same people making both the posts.
