Express mail is a total rip off

So, I wanted to send easter cards to my parents in Ireland. Yes, my bad, forgot to post them, so went to post office first thing on Thurs morning, and paid 8.50 (1 envelope with 3 cards from DC in it!!!!) to send them express. Just checked on the tracker and they are still in the UK. So pissed off. Should have just put them in the post box. No post tomorrow or Monday so they wont get them until Tues, maybe Wed. My friend sent me an urgent thing in the post from Ireland and it arrived the next day. And it was cheaper. I thought sending on Thursday they would definitely arrive today. Total rip off. Never again.

Does Eirpost work/deliver on Good Friday?
Royal Mail doesn't.

I think the counter staff should have pointed out next day delivery would not be possible in this case, but unless you knew for sure the Irish postal system works on bank holidays, you were expecting miracles.

(Although your use of "express post" has me wondering where you were sending from, as that's not a RM term)

It’s taking over a week here for normal first class (within the same area), so I’m not surprised.

It’s almost like something, not sure what, but something is causing delays.

They will get there op, just hold out.

Ooh apologies - have just realised it's (normal) Saturday today!

If you paid for a next day service (Special Delivery?) then yes they theoretically should have come today, but I think all mail services are suffering with staffing issues.

Counter staff should have advised if it wouldn't even leave the country of sending before next week though.

Post gets delivered on Good Friday in Ireland, so I thought it would leave the UK on Thurs evening and arrive either Fri or Sat. I just asked for express delivery so I don't know what it's called here. Yeah it's ok they will still get it. But no faster than putting it in a post box for £1

There's no post here in Ireland on Saturdays. Also, I've noticed that post going on either direction between Ireland and the UK is taking way longer than usual.
