to not go out for burgers for DH

We are both self employed and wfh anyway. DH is doing some work now that he could do anytime between now and Tuesday. I have spent the morning doing housework. I’m working tomorrow morning around looking after DS.
We are planning a bbq this afternoon (just us and DS8) and DH wants me to go to the butcher because he “really wanted burgers”. DH bought meat yesterday and I went to the greengrocer. We have plenty of food to choose from and are easily stocked up for the next week. Yesterday he said he didn’t get burgers as the butcher was shut and he would ride his motorbike up to the butcher today to get some but now he says he’s working so can’t. I suspect he’s hungover. He’s now saying I’ve not marinaded anything so we have literally nothing to cook. Ffs it’s 11am and we have plenty!
AIBU to refuse and say he can pause what he’s doing and go get what he wants? He’s clearly stroppy with me now but I don’t want to go out more than necessary.

He didn't drive for miles to a village butcher's shop yesterday and come home empty-handed, did he?

ACupOfTeaSolvesEverything · 11/04/2020 11:10

He went on his motorbike to our village high street. Finding it closed he went to the local CoOp and shopped there.

The butcher was closed (Good Friday) not the whole high street.

Can you make do without burgers?

ACupOfTeaSolvesEverything · 11/04/2020 11:24

Yes of course.

It’s completely unnecessary he just “fancies” them

Do you have mince? He can make some if he's set on having them 🍔

ACupOfTeaSolvesEverything · 11/04/2020 11:31

Yes that’s the crazy thing! He is desperate for lamb burgers. We have minced lamb and mint sauce so I’m going to make some. I just don’t see the need for either of us to leave the house.

Meh, I'd be inclined to keep him happy, pop to butchers, put and end to it and get some time away from him... then again I'm a pushover who enjoys her own space.

bridgetreilly · 11/04/2020 11:34

No. It's not an essential journey. You can't go and he can't go and he needs to stop being so entitled.

Make the barbecue with the food you've got.

Lovebb · 11/04/2020 11:34

It’s not a BBQ without burgers imo. I’m with your DH

They have MINCE. They can make bloody burgers. It's not rocket science.

If he wants them so much he can go get them- who does the bulk of the work for this meal anyway - the prepping, the laying the table, the salad, the cleaning up... if it's you then he should definitely be the one going.

^^I'm in tears. Grin

OP, YANBU. He doesn't need burgers.

I think this is one thing people stillnarent getting. Don't go our unless you NEED to, you have food in the house so you don't need to go out. Just because you want something you haven't got that isn't a specific need. Stay home it's an unessary trip out.

ACupOfTeaSolvesEverything · 11/04/2020 11:57

He’s definitely hungover he’s just cracked open a hair of the dog. Going to be a fun afternoon. He can piss right off with his burgers. I wasn’t going to go out but I don’t even want to do home made now!

We've been really encouraging DC to eat/drink different foods a d drink at the end of a week when we have about enough food bit have run out of their preferred option. I've been cutting down on chocolate/biscuits and eating about 1/3 of what I used to, and trying to drink more water. But DH said he might have to go to the shops to get more coffee because he didnt like one of the jars. DD(13) suggested mixing a small amount with the one he does like to make it last longer. Then he thought we needed milk be cause hes drinking more tea and coffee. She suggested he had water or a cold drink and he was completely aghast. We havent run out of everything but the more popular things run out quicker. I'm finding it a bit Hmm that me a d DC are adjusting our habits but DH doesnt think it applies to him!! (He hasn't been out btw but seems v loathe to try the "make do/try something different approach" that hes been advocating for the rest of the family!
