AIBU to think DP doesn't get it?

DP had to pop into town this morning to do an essential errand for his elderly mum who isn't able to leave her house.

Just before going out, he said that he'd pick up some soya milk while he was out because we've only got a couple in the cupboard and although he's doing the big weekly shop later, the supermarket are limiting people to 3 cartons.

I asked him not to because we're supposed to try to limit the number of shopping trips and I think we can manage with what we've got.

He's just got back, had been to the shop that he said he was going to (I wish he hadn't but accept that he's a grown man and can make his own decisions).

My AIBU is this. He bought a grand total of 3 items (things we eat but by no means essential basics) but didn't get any soya milk because "you asked me not to". I tried explaining that it was the additional visit to a shop that I wanted him to avoid but if he was in there it would have made sense to buy more stuff including the bloody soya milk.

His response? "Why do you always want to start an argument?" and "I'm not listening."

Sorry for the boring post and yes, I do know that there are zillions of similar ones (btw, in anticipation of some of the replies: if this is a pointless thread, why didn't you just stop reading after the first paragraph?)

I just needed to get it off my chest so I'd stop stewing over it and get on with doing something more useful and, at the moment, there's nobody I can grumble to in RL.

Ahhh man! He obviously knew what you meant! It’s lockdown stress but I totally agree, I’m trying to do a fortnightly shop to reduce shop visits and would be stressed if DH went to the shop for one or two things that we could live without!

CanofCant · 11/04/2020 20:31

Well, he showed you didn't he? What a twat.

Outtedagain · 11/04/2020 20:32

Let it go. Not worth a row when you stuck with each other for now. But I do agree with you, nobody should make unnecessary shops. It’s for needed items not leisure for a while.

You told him not to do something and he didn't.

LTB.

Yanbu. It's annoying when pil follow the letter of the law but not the intent.

ferntwist · 11/04/2020 21:27

That would infuriate me OP. What a wally he is.

Thanks for the replies.

I was pretty infuriated at the time but got it out of my system by ranting on here. I went off and did some gardening, dp came up later with a cup of tea for me. The argument blew over and we're all good now.

I've got one like that. Trying not to let it drive me nuts.
