To give blood

I am a regular donor and I'm asthmatic. I'm not going out for daily exercise as I don't trust other people to maintain social distancing etc and I'm fine being outside in our garden. I'm booked in to give blood on Monday and I trust the professionals to maintain safe distances and keep people separate as much as possible. I realise there will be people there but I think donating is important.

DH doesn't agree with me donating when I won't go out anywhere else to avoid getting ill. Although CV doesn't leave sufferers in need of blood, there are fewer donors right now and I think it is important to keep my appointment. AIBU to donate?

the Welsh blood service have texted me with offers of appointments, this is a first.

but I'm lucky enough not to have to go out except for a supermarket run, so this is unnecessary extra risk. Sorry. Back after the pandemic.

Depends on your blood type but unless you’re O- I don’t think you need to go.

I’m AB+ so my blood is pretty much useless, I wouldn’t go out of my way to donate if I was asthmatic

@Candyflosscookie even with the old style beds, they should be setting them up with distancing. Having said that, I'm always more concerned I don't get the person who stabs at the arm when inserting the needle, but rather one of the two new ones, who are actually pretty good at putting the needle in.

My Dad wasn't allowed to donate (over 70, so just vulnerable group)

I can't even register to donate.

If people didn't see my update, I went but wasn't able to donate because of low iron.
