To think people just like screaming stay the fuck home again and again no matter whether it’s relevant or not?

Ok screaming may be an exaggeration.

But the minute you mention stepping foot outside the house so many posters keep repeating stay the fuck home constantly without even reading the post and the details. Yes sometimes it is relevant and appropriate but on many occasions it’s absolutely not. There are lots of genuine reasons for people not to stay the fuck at home. Not everyone has somebody to shop for them and online shops are difficult to get or the vulnerable person isn’t computer literate. Some people on here have decided for themselves what is essential and what is not despite it not matching up to governmental guidelines.

I think right from the start, everyone has interpreted it differently. In my street, quite a lot of people arent leaving their house at all. But then, that's not entirely unusual, some people go out more than others anyway, even before Coronavirus. We've always been going out type people, going on days out most weekends, whereas some neighbours spend all weekend at home, barr food shopping. So, for a lot of people, nothing has changed. We've been going for a walk daily, sometimes driving 10 mins away go for it, so as to change routine. Weve been food shopping twice week. The other day on our local nrighbourhood watch fb, someone put up that she'd been the chemist and didn't know what was the matter with people, as there were queue for Sainsbury's and the car park was full, and how everybody should stay at home, and lots of exclamation marks. How on earth does she think people are going to eat.
Then there is my neighbour, a nurse, who has carried on like before, with visitors galore and not a care in the world. So there are all different extremes out there.

JudyCoolibar · 11/04/2020 08:00

Absolutely. There is more than one thread around where people are still telling OPs that they're stupid, they're the reason people are dying, they must stay the fuck home several hours after they've said they won't be going out anywhere. Then there are the ones where OPs mention tangentially going out in the before-lockdown era - the self-righteous types are so eager to pile in that they derail the entire thread telling OP off for doing something that was at the time totally legal and harmless.

The funniest are probably the ones that tell OPs how stupid they are, all the time revealing their own stupidity for not reading properly - whether it's posts on the thread or what the legislation actually says.

thetwinkletoescollective · 11/04/2020 08:01

I have found the stay at home shouts on mn tedious and not once have they inspired me to stay at home.

SoupDragon · 11/04/2020 08:05

this is a killjoy site

Says the person who wanted to ban children from drawing rainbows to it in their windows 🙄

Bienentrinkwasser · 11/04/2020 08:05

Have a friend who keeps posting ‘stay indoors’. That is not the bloody advice!

Sadie789 · 11/04/2020 08:08

@bienentrinkwasser exactly this.

JudyCoolibar · 11/04/2020 08:14

Arnoldthecat it’s not the law. It’s a recommendatio. Not the law. I don’t get what people don’t understand about this. There is NO LAW to stay inside. It is a government guideline and some coppers are taking it a bit too far. It’s not a law so if you get ‘fined’ for being outside just don’t pay it and send them a screen shot of the official consensus which states you can go out a limitless amount of times for food, exercise and medical issues

To be fair, @StrongMama1989, it actually is the law - a combination of the Coronavirus Act and the Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) Regulations, which give enforcement powers by way of fixed penalty notices and prosecutions. The regulations set out that we mustn't go outside without reasonable excuse and then give a number of instances of what constitutes reasonable excuse, which includes the need to take exercise and go shopping. Although nothing says we can only do that once a day/week etc, the word "need" is important: it would be quite difficult to prove that you actually need to go out more than the guidance suggests.

Lynda07 · 11/04/2020 08:15

I've not heard anyone scream but then I don't go out so I suppose I wouldn't Grin. What you say makes me scared to go out even if I had to, I certainly don't want to be screamed at. What's the point?

missmouse101 · 11/04/2020 08:16

I am heartily fed up with many people trying to find a way around the very clear rules. Or bending them to suit their situation. The ignorance and arrogance shown by some is breathtaking. It's actually terrifying because they are quite happy to potentally put others in danger for their own selfish gain. If people aren't complying, maybe they need to be told in words of one syllable?

missmouse101 · 11/04/2020 08:18

To the PP. It's not a recommendation and it's certainly not a guideline. It's very clear RULES.

dogsdinnerlady · 11/04/2020 08:26

All the stay home guidelines are just that, government guidelines. They are not 'the law'. Unless or until these pass into legislation you can't be prosecuted in law for not complying.

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 11/04/2020 08:28

I’m bored. Judging other people gives me something to do. So I’ll continue to entertain myself by hoisting my judgy-pants, if it’s all the same to you.

In fairness to me, I only share my judgements with my family.

Sleepsoon7 · 11/04/2020 08:29

Following on from JudyCoolibar - have a look at Regulations 6, (7 for gatherings), 8 and 9. Issues are arising when police are being over zealous with enforcement and the interpretation of ‘need’. The guidance gives examples of when ‘need’ might apply to exercising several times a day eg SEN children preferably with a specific health plan.

Stellamboscha · 11/04/2020 08:29

Was woken by n the middle of the night by a policeman shouting at someone on our (very quiet) street to go and be safe at home. From his side of the conversation (window was open /is that still allowed?) it sounded as if the person was looking for something lost (cat?).
Person doing zero harm to anyone at 2am in deserted street -being ordered home with the repeated fucking mantra of 'stay safe' aaaargh!

Yellowbutterfly1 · 11/04/2020 08:29

I completely agree with you.
People can’t even ask a simple valid question without getting that comment shouted back at them.
It really does seem to be like some sort of ‘Look at me, aren’t I just so perfect’ competition. It’s like they seem to think they are the only ones staying at home.

Social media nowadays just seems to be full of the Coronavirus police.

Sleepsoon7 · 11/04/2020 08:30

The Regulations apply to the Coronavirus Act 2020 whi came into force a couple of weeks ago....

Sleepsoon7 · 11/04/2020 08:30

Which not whi !

LastTrainEast · 11/04/2020 08:35

Of course some people are being very annoying and inaccurate. I have compared reporting people for breaking the rules to reporting benefit claimants. Both are wrong because you don't really know the circumstances.

The rules were presented as guidelines as it was assumed that people would make reasoned risk assessments and behave like adults. Making small exceptions was going to be part of that of course.

Instead we get people saying "waa! they can't tell us what to do" Those who act like overtired toddlers who don't want to go to bed are going to get treated accordingly.

againandagain1 · 11/04/2020 08:36

The stay at home often crowd equate going out with dying. So if you go out, people could die. Your child is struggling with stay at home? Be glad you child is alive.

I read on here that it was selfish to the take the last two items of a product in the supermarket because one should be left for someone more worthy. Yes the supermarkets assess every product on the basis of need Hmm.

I think the ones who keep screaming stay at home are just miserable which is why they jump on others who went out for 60 minutes and 1 second not that there are rules. Someone mentions going out and the interrogation starts. How long were you out for? What did you buy? How many shops? Then arguing it was not an essential purchase or staying out longer meant that people could die.

OP posts:
LastTrainEast · 11/04/2020 08:38

Lou670 As for the mask wearing. That one pains me. The only benefit to those is the psychological affect and reassure (albeit false) it gives the wearer.

Wrong It's not a magic cure, but it helps a bit. Mostly if the person wearing it is infected, but no one knows if they are. Were you not taught by your mum to cover your face when you sneezed?

Zaphodsotherhead · 11/04/2020 08:38

The worst ones are the ones misinterpreting advice and shouting 'you've gone too far! Go home!' at runners or walkers who are out for more than an hour.

An hour is advised. It is in no way a legal obligation to only be out for an hour, especially if you are in a rural environment. But everyone seems to think it is and doesn't hesitate to 'enforce their beliefs'.

longearedbat · 11/04/2020 08:39

@JudyCoolibar
www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2020/350/made
This is the legislation - I hope it comes up, I'm not very good at links. In section 6, restrictions on movement, I can't see anywhere where it says you can't go outside, as in 'outside in the fresh air', it just says you can't leave your property, which includes outbuildings etc. There is no law about not being outside at all. There is also no mention of a hour a day (which is a guideline, not a law) or just going out once only.

FortunesFave · 11/04/2020 08:42

I think there's a section of society that's LOVING the whole thing.

They're enjoying the fact that nothing's normal.

MillicentMargaretAmanda · 11/04/2020 08:42

I agree OP. I've had to unfollow someone on FB as they had managed to source everything they needed, foodwise, from lots of different local providers and were basically judging those going out to shop. Bully for them..they live in a city. I live rurally and can't even get a pizza delivery under normal circumstances! I've wasted several hours of my life searching to find if companies were delivering to my neck of the woods and most weren't. Many people fail to see that everyone has a different context. My friend who has poor mental health that is improved by exercise, goes out on her bike for 90 minutes a day. It's helping her cope and survive this. No one should be judging but I bet loads are.

YgritteSnow · 11/04/2020 08:44

@Lou670 much of your post around wearing masks is incorrect. That's the guidance that was being given a few weeks ago but new research has suggested that even wearing a simple, home made mask can reduce transmission substantially. I suggest to anyone reading that post to do your own research before deciding if you wear a mask or not. A quick google is all you need to do.
