My DH is starting to look a bit shaggy and I’m wondering about getting hair clippers, but how easy are they to use and any recommendations?.

You'll be lucky to find any. Think it's wahl ones I use on dh but he's easy to do as I just give him a number 1 all over

My DH bought a Braun beard trimmer, which doubles up as a hair trimmer because you can put it on a 'high cut'

It was really drastic to begin with - I keep telling him he looks like he's in a police identity line-up (sorry if that's non-PC!). but after a week it has grown out quite well and he says it's so nice not to have all the long hair down his neck.

I am almost , but not quite, tempted to do mine, but I'd be so afraid it wouldn't grow back, so I'm sticking with some hairdressing scissors and trying to trim small bits off at a time esp my fringe!

He bought his off Amazon, they came in 5 days.

We got some off Argos. I've just done my DHs hair out in the garden. It looks ok.

MaggieAndHopey · 10/04/2020 13:39

If you're only planning to use it once or twice you probably don't need to spend £££. I have a good quality one I bought six years ago - my husband shaves his head regularly and I go through buzzcut phases myself.

They are really easy to use with a guard on, you basically can't go wrong unless you want to do proper fades and stuff.

I used Wahl clippers on DH last week. I used a no4 guard but apparently did a good enough job to be trusted with his usual no3 next time .
Mine were £24/from Boots about a year ago.

We got ours from the Wahl website as even though loads of places had them in stock (Argos, Superdrug boots etc) they were only click and collect and I’m on 12 week isolation so can’t get them. I’ve done DS and DH and they look better than they did so hopefully next hair cut will be even better

I have a Whal, they are good. I have been cutting my DH and DS's hair forever. The basic method is to always work towards the crown from every direction. Start with one of the largest sizes and make sure you keepthe flat edge of the 'comb' flat against the head. If you want it shorter around the back change to a smaller size but as you get level with the middle of the ears twist your wrist ( like you were drinking a cup of tea) and tilt the top of the comb towards you and move it away. That should give you a softer edge.

We have wahl ones. Cost twenty pounds.
Dh has a 4 on top, 2 on back and sides, 3 in the middle to tidy it up.(Mil is a hairdresser and showed me how)
Its idiot proof, trust me, just follow the shape of the head.

Get use to the feeling of it in your hand for a few minutes. Depending on what kind of cut your looking for an all over cut it is easy enough, look at a few YouTube videos for blending. If blending use the scissors and comb after the shave.
