Delivering food for relatives in another area.

Hi all, DS has come down with a fever so we are now isolating for 2 weeks. I had planned to do a food shop this weekend.. but obviously won’t be happening.

I need some essentials.. bread, milk, eggs etc. Even snacks and fruit for dc we are short of.

I live in the middle of nowhere with very few neighbours to help out and the neighbours we do have are self isolating themselves due to health problems or being elderly. No supermarket slots available as most of us know. Can’t find anything else locally. We are literally middle of nowhere.

My mum lives 12 miles away. She’s not vulnerable or elderly and would I be unreasonable to ask if she could deliver some supplies? Will it be frowned Upon driving 12 miles? Can’t see what other option we have right now! Aibu?

It is absolutely fine as long as you both observe social distancing when she delivers it.

HugeAckmansWife · 10/04/2020 11:24

You can drive any distance you like as long as its for one of the acceptable reasons and this would be.

LittleBearPad · 10/04/2020 11:26

If for any reason she can’t do it (though seems fine to me) try Morrison’s Food Boxes. Might see you through.

Starlet29 · 10/04/2020 11:27

Thank you. She will leave on the step. I have looked at Morrison’s food boxes @littlebearpad. I assumed there needed to be a Morrison’s in your area?

If it's essential then YANBU. I have to do the same for my dad who is 10 miles away from me.

We will be driving 40 miles to deliver food tomorrow it’s fine as long as social distance is kept Smile

BogRollBOGOF · 10/04/2020 11:34

12 miles is fine Smile

I'm fortunate that DM has my sibling locally as I'm an hour away. I would travel it if necessary, but it wouldn't be an ideal longer-term solution. Also I live in one of the 5 hot spots of the country, so risking unwittingly spreading it across areas would be far from ideal.

I’m going to be doing this for my parents 60 miles away if they can’t get a delivery soon. All their closer family are self-isolating and their local mutual aid group is not at all active. Not ideal, but I’m not going to let them starve (and the Morrison’s box doesn’t meet their dietary needs)
