My friends rented out rooms to students in Brighton. I once asked one of their lodgers who was African (I am sorry I can't remember which country, but West African sub-Saharan) if there was anything about our culture that he found unexpected. He said he thought it extremely weird that you could see Brits meet someone in the street and they would greet each other's dogs and ignore the children! 😂
