...come the next election, and be willing to pay higher taxes if asked, or change the way they vote, in order to show support for the NHS? Just curious. (I will be, before anyone asks - but then I wasn't voting Tory in the first place.)

YABU = no, YANBU = yes

Yes, I will pay higher taxes but I trust the Tories to manage it better rather than paying it out to the feckless.

I don't get why the two things seem to be assumed to be mutually exclusive. I clapped and I'm a lifelong Labour voter and have been actively campaigning for an NHS related charity for almost 5 years.

ChipotleBlessing · 09/04/2020 21:53

Yes, I vote to pay higher taxes. I clap. I’m not clapping for the government, it’s for the country and it’s nice to see all the neighbours!

Rosehip10 · 09/04/2020 21:53

@FedupwithCFs Hi Priti.

CoronaIsComing · 09/04/2020 21:53

But the 2 aren’t mutually exclusive... you can have voted Labour in the last election and clap as well Confused.

MyNeckMyBack · 09/04/2020 21:53

I’m a ‘clapper’. Lifelong Labour voter.

The anti-clapping brigade are becoming as bad as the clapping police.

Lludmilla · 09/04/2020 21:53

Yes, I will pay higher taxes but I trust the Tories to manage it better rather than paying it out to the feckless.

How would you define feckless?

Iggly · 09/04/2020 21:53

Yes, I will pay higher taxes but I trust the Tories to manage it better rather than paying it out to the feckless

There’s no evidence that the Tories manage the economy better.

It’s a matter of opinion. Not fact.

FedupwithCFs · 09/04/2020 21:55

Oh get a fucking grip, @Rosehip10.

AgnesNaismith · 09/04/2020 21:56

Bollocks question

Lludmilla · 09/04/2020 21:57

But the 2 aren’t mutually exclusive... you can have voted Labour in the last election and clap as well

Totally agree. But I'm interested to hear whether this has moved any of the 'clappers' who do vote Tory to change their allegiances.

SoMuchToBits · 09/04/2020 21:57

I would pay higher taxes if necessary. And I went out and played a tune clapped. I also work for the NHS frontline and earn less than £10 per hour. And haven't voted for the current government.

FedupwithCFs · 09/04/2020 21:57

Feckless? Tax credits and the sense of entitlement to them for one. People working full time or all the overtime they could while feckless fucked about on 16 hours “as it would affect the benefits” 🙄🙄

Saw it so many times.

Rosehip10 · 09/04/2020 21:57

@FedupwithCFs Oh sod off with your use of inflammatory language - just wanted to cause a bun fight?

As PP said, please define "feckless" ?

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 09/04/2020 21:57

I don't get why the two things seem to be assumed to be mutually exclusive

I don’t get that either

On another thread someone said that if we really want to show support we should stay at home ( obviously within the guidelines) And its a very good point

But I think people are perfectly capable of paying more tax, voting to help the NHS, following the lockdown rules AND clapping

Lludmilla · 09/04/2020 21:58

Bollocks question

Is that a no?

OP posts:
Forgetaboutme · 09/04/2020 21:59

Never voted Tories in my life but I'm in Scotland so my vote makes no difference anyway as far as I'm concerned.

Lludmilla · 09/04/2020 21:59

I would pay higher taxes if necessary. And I went out and played a tune clapped. I also work for the NHS frontline and earn less than £10 per hour. And haven't voted for the current government.

@SoMuchToBits thank you for what you're doing.

OP posts:
FedupwithCFs · 09/04/2020 22:00

I defined “feckless” @Rosehip10

I will still vote Tory next election.

Will the labour voting furloughed or the small business owners getting grants still vote labour next election? 😂😂😂

Pickles89 · 09/04/2020 22:01

following the lockdown rules AND clapping

A lot of the pictures/clips I've seen online, neighbours have been coming out of their terraced houses together to clap, so even though they're just outside their front doors they're not social distancing effectively.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 09/04/2020 22:02

Thank god i didnt say everyone is capable Grin

But people are capable, they just choose not to do it

Lludmilla · 09/04/2020 22:03

Will the labour voting furloughed or the small business owners getting grants still vote labour next election? 😂😂😂

Well, I will be doing, because regardless of those measures I still don't agree with Tory ideology. Also, there are quite a number of us small business owners out here getting F all. Just saying.

HeIenaDove · 09/04/2020 22:03

Ah yes the feckless. All those poorer people who went on skiing trips to Northern Italy AFTER the fact. All those poorer people who kept boarding cruise ships. All those poorer people who keep travelling to their second homes Hmm

Yet again personal responsibility is only for the poor!!!

Alanna1 · 09/04/2020 22:07

Yes but I rather fear higher taxes are just going to be paying off the enormous debts the economy is currently taking on, not pay rises for anyone in the public sector!
