is this ok or not? (neighbour behaviour)

My neighbour is in the process of giving a personal training lesson outside in their garden, along with booming music. She is having to shout the instructions to the group in the video link. My friend 2 doors away from me can hear her shouting!

Now I am a music teacher and popped round a few weeks ago to let them know that I was going to have to start video teaching on line for the time being. But this is inside, (with the windows closed). And that I was sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

They also have been building their extension for 3 years now, which means frequent drilling and banging etc.

AIBU to find this exercise session going on outside annoying?

More information needed. Was it an individual session or was she out there all day teaching session after session?

emmathedilemma · 09/04/2020 17:14

It's a bit anti-social but I guess she's trying to keep her business going and it's not like it's the early hours of the morning or a time when people are going to have kids in bed. It's probably no worse than kids playing out and screaming / crying / sounding like they're murdering each other.

Petiolaris · 09/04/2020 17:16

They’re entitled to do DIY, I don’t think you can complain about that.

How often are they doing the PT? If it’s for a hour a couple of times a week I’d let it go, it’s exceptional circumstances and only for a few weeks. If it’s every day then I’d complain.

canigooutyet · 09/04/2020 17:16

If she was quite it wouldn’t be so bad.

Booming music she would get told to turn it down, shut the fuck up, some would loudly take the piss out of the whole situation.
Not the background noise you want when you are trying to be professional 🤣

Also might be nice weather to hose the garden, mow the lawn etc.

Yea I know people need fresh air, work etc. So do the poor sods listening to loads of racket.

clareOclareO · 09/04/2020 17:16

YANBU. There is no reason for her to need to shout and blare the music out. She could easily use a wireless headset to hear the music and avoid needing to shout. Connect it to a laptop - presumably how she's broadcasting the video - and mix the video feed with the music on the laptop together with her voice.

To be honest it sounds like she is enjoying the performance - letting her neighbours how busy she is, how fit she is, but above all, doesn't give a shit if it affects others.

Bluntness100 · 09/04/2020 17:18

How often does she do it? How long does it last. People exercising with her is a positive.

canigooutyet · 09/04/2020 17:18

Oh so children can sleep at night, but key workers not allowed to sleep during the day. They will be used to the usual noises and sleep through. Booming music isn’t a normal thing.

She could easily do as the rest and work inside

Bluntness100 · 09/04/2020 17:19

how fit she is

Miaow.😂

wishiwasinbarbados · 09/04/2020 17:20

This is the first PT sessions she's done that I've heard - i.e. outside.
They have a huge house - bigger than ours, so I know she has the space to do it in one of their rooms.
They also have kids screaming, squealing and crying most of the day too.

Blah. I'm just a grumpy old git|!
I think what pisses me off is the fact that I try and be courteous to my neighbours, and they just don't give a shit.

mumwon · 09/04/2020 17:25

your garden needs watering - oops - so sorry Grin

Hingeandbracket · 09/04/2020 17:27

I might think this was a great time to crank up my chainsaw.

Oaksandashes · 09/04/2020 17:34

Its not early in the morning or late at night. It can't go on for more than an hour max surely?. She's prob trying to keep her business afloat. Let it go, we all need to be a little more accommodating to our neighbours at the moment. Maybe you could join in?. I'd love to exercise today but i did PE with Joe 6 days running & my legs & arse are so sore I cant get off the couch today so wine & Netflix it is

Lidlfix · 09/04/2020 17:44

I think a degree of flexibility and tolerance from everyone is required in the present circles. If she's keeping her business going and providing a service that could be keeping people physically and mentally well and it was just a session here and there then might be my time to do my hoovering, blow dry my hair ...

Neighbour one side is out a few times per day tinkering sometimes quietly sometimes makes a bit of noise. Other side grown up DC who still live with them might do a work out in their garden with music playing. I might wrap up and read or do some yoga if there's no one else around.

Yes perhaps they have not been as courteous as you but not Unreasonable.

MintyMabel · 09/04/2020 17:50

They also have kids screaming, squealing and crying most of the day too.

Probably why she was outside.

You just don’t like them, huh?

HaudMaDug · 09/04/2020 17:56

Go join in. Smile

canigooutyet · 09/04/2020 17:56

How comes it’s always everyone else who has to be accommodating?
She could do a reduced prerecorded set.
She could work indoors. Just because her children are noisy shouldn’t mean she can disturb others.
If she did pre-recorded sessions she could film them when they are in bed.
Yes she’s motivating people etc, but what about the MH of those she is disturbing?

TabbyMumz · 09/04/2020 17:59

My neighbour has had her music booming outside for 3 hours now. She is sunbathing. She doesnt give two hoots who it bothers as long as she is happy. Weve had to sit inside with the doors shut, and I can still hear it.

Snaga · 09/04/2020 18:01

We have a shared garden that we've been unable to use because the neighbours don't believe in social distancing. They've now set up a campsite in the shared space and are practising martial arts sword fighting. Not having a competition for shittest neighbours but why are people so fucking selfish!?

WorraLiberty · 09/04/2020 18:03

If her music's too loud and you really can't stand it, just ask her to turn it down Confused

Mind you, if it's only the first time you've heard it, you might come across as 'that neighbour'.

TabbyMumz · 09/04/2020 18:10

"If her music's too loud and you really can't stand it, just ask her to turn it down"
Dont know about the op, but Ive asked my neighbour to turn hers down twice in the last 4 months. The people who put their music on in gardens just dont care.

SharonasCorona · 09/04/2020 18:14

Can’t believe anyone would pay for PT by video! I would just YouTube #tightasaducksarse

canigooutyet · 09/04/2020 18:24

Tbh I cannot believe people regularly pay for a PT. There’s some fabulous apps with free workout sessions. Never mind YouTube etc.
Yea in the beginning to get a plan, and the occasional session to update the plan. But every week for months/years 🤣 people are very odd

LakieLady · 09/04/2020 18:46

I'd bloody complain. Loud music out of doors is really anti-social imo, especially in nice weather when it's too warm to keep doors and windows closed.

But then I'm a proper grumpy fucker.

makingmammaries · 10/04/2020 06:35

The chainsaw was a good suggestion. Or surely your lawn needs mowing, OP.
