To think MPs shouldn’t get this extra money

We’re all having to face hardships but typically MPs putting their needs ahead of nurses and other front line workers. They already get a big allowance for their office.

MPs simply don’t work at home, they’re always in parliament or in their office, in the field etc. And same for their staff. They’re actually very “behind the times” Tech wise - parliamentary process is actually very traditionally run. Perfectly possible they don’t have the infrastructure in place. Parliament still needs to run, this will be a step toward Possibly making it run virtually.

I work for the govt and we are being bought whatever equipment we need to get us working safely from home. Same thing as far as I’m concerned.

You'd be better off seeing which MPs claim this, and what for, and criticising those who abuse it. They've not given this allowance to themselves, they've been told they can apply for a maximum extra amount.

I've approved a staff member to charge a mobile data package to the office, as they don't have broadband. Several have bought keyboards which I've reimbursed. Everyone already has a work-issued laptop, and we don't allow anything to be printed at home. So yes, many people will have incurred extra expenses, others won't. Why this incessant insistence on a race to the bottom?
