I'm considering this as a profession.

Do you get the same holiday entitlement as teachers or does it differ?

What about bearing a school senco op?

All of our LA advisory teachers were made redundant recently-I’d be careful going down that route.

EP is an excellent job-I work with them routinely, but it’s a considerable trawl to get there. You’d need a psych degree or masters conversion and then a doctorate. That will be 3/4 years with an 80,000 thesis which you may not get funded for.

There are not enough EPs nationwide which also brings its own issues. There is little time for them to actually support children any more and most of their work is now doing statutory work for EHC plan assessments on extremely tight deadlines.

I used to teach and planned to become an Educational Psychologist. Did the post-grad conversion course in psychology by distance learning with the OU with a view to applying for the doctorate. Then I had a child and my priorities changed and I decided I didn't have the commitment and motivation needed to see it through. Took a few years off, did something else for a few years, then decided to retrain as a Speech and Language Therapist. Currently mid-course. You still don't get the school holidays, sadly (although there may be jobs in special schools where you would)...but it might suit you in terms of still working with children in education settings.

These are all good ideas, so much to think about. Thank you.
