Unreasonable and petty things that put you off a person

NC, penis beaker, wailing michaelangelo etc

Just wondered if anyone else can relate to this - I seem to be easily put off people due to very petty things in the scheme of things.

For example, last month I had to pick up a male colleague on the way to a work meeting. I had to go in his house to help carry some things, which meant going through his garden. He had washing on the line, including his pants. I don't know why but this made me lose respect for him and feel a bit embarrassed for seeing a colleague's pants (not sure if I was embarrassed for me or him). He didn't seem to notice though. He's in his late 50s and I really didn't want to see his pants under any circumstances!

Another was a guy I was seeing years ago. On one occasion he tried for a kiss and I wasn't expecting it, and seeing his lips pierced ready for a kiss when I was completely off guard just disgusted me. It put me off and I didn't see him again Confused

Once something like this has happened my view of them is tainted. Is this a known thing or am I just an unreasonable cow?

@DilemmaADay

Was her name actually Susan or is this the sexist and ageist use of a woman's name to make it funnier?

Totally accept i am kitkatting here lol

SerenDippitty · 13/04/2020 18:56

@CruCru yes smug tall men are a real turn off.

Blondiney · 13/04/2020 19:55

Short women who base their identity on being petite, pocket rockets, Polly fucking Pockets etc

Wolfgirrl · 13/04/2020 19:59

@blondiney

Yes some do. And IMO they usually suffer short woman syndrome, are very bossy and snide

Blondiney · 13/04/2020 20:01

Haha, just read the previous comments about the cutesy short women thing. Glad others find it irritating too!

DilemmaADay · 13/04/2020 20:32

@Wolfgirrl it was actually Susan haha! Not heard of it being used in a sexist way, only 'Karen' to describe women who like to speak to the manager...not my opinion just what I've heard before I get jumped on again Grin

Wolfgirrl · 13/04/2020 20:34

@dilemmaaday

Well that's shut me up! Lol

Yes!!! So irritating. Constantly posting memes about how good things come in small packages and how they’re so teeny tiny that even petite clothes are huge on them because they’re just SO TINY! Yes we know- you’re short. You don’t have to tell us over and over and over again. I don’t go on and on about being tall and how long my legs are because that would be obnoxious.

Blondiney · 13/04/2020 21:16

Raises my long, slender arm and hi fives @Russellbrandshair Grin

Russellbrandshair · 13/04/2020 21:21

@blondiiney

🙌 🖐 lol

TheReluctantCountess · 13/04/2020 22:17

And going on about wearing kids’ clothes and shoes.

Wolfgirrl · 13/04/2020 22:24

And constantly reiterating they have size 3 feet. And that they 'wouldn't say boo to a goose'.

DilemmaADay · 13/04/2020 22:45

@wolfgirrl

"Well that's shut me up! Lol"

Haha, it was a bizarre coincidence she was called Susan, but totally see where you're coming from there Smile

ooooohbetty · 13/04/2020 22:55

Discovered today there are people who have fake flowers in their garden. Totally unreasonable.

bettybattenburg · 13/04/2020 23:03

There was a book I read as a child where they had fake flowers in their garden and changed them with the seasons. I can't for the life of me remember the name of the book now.

people who forget that it's the middle-aged mums who were the first facebook users!

cms1972 · 14/04/2020 02:05

Unfortunately I have a(nother) dating-related tale of being put off someone Hmm....
As a young & easily-embarrassed teenager, I went to the cinema with a boy from two years above me at school.

Kids, it was different in those days (early 80s). There was no booking online beforehand... if you wanted a ticket, you had to queue!
So there we were queuing at the cinema & I stood on my tiptoes and whispered discreetly in his ear, "Do you know where the toilets are?"
Unbelievably he laughed & said (as I recall, fairly loudly) (ie., so that half the queue could hear him) - "If you want a wee-wee or if you want a poo-poo the toilets are round there on the left".
Oh. My. God. Blush
...... Obviously that date was the first and the last!

cms1972 · 14/04/2020 02:35

Dear @HungryForSnacks

I am with you on this one.
Intelligence trumps any kind of physical 'defect', but men with short arms are a turn-off. Also:

  • men with big bums
  • men with short legs
  • men with outsize heads.

Basically, I wouldn't shag a hobbit

"Don't tell the misses"

Why be in a partnership with someone if you want to treat them like the enemy?

Bad grammar - his/he's, of/have etc. every now and again is fine, nobody's perfect. But at least get it right sometimes

People who play sound from their phone on loudspeaker instead of earphones

Men who want their partner to pluck their eyebrows instead of going to get them professionally done (when they can afford it).

Men who don't like it when women swear conversationally

People who speak in a low voice. Speak up please, I cannot hear you and it's awkward for both of us now!

Men in jeans

People who don't rinse their dishes

People who get your name wrong in emails, after you have written your name in the previous email

People who martyr themselves

People who complain about a problem, but refuse to brainstorm ways to fix the problem

When work contact you early in the morning after you have just worked a night shift. I mean, c'mon, you knowwww I have worked the night shift!

People who constantly get speeding fines / ran a red light fines / parking fines. I don't appreciate careless drivers. I find it very immature and weird to be honest. Oh and then the same people mock you for going the speed limit, calling you a "granny" driver. I mean, I'm going the speed limit for Christ sake!?! I always defend myself, but it just annoys me that they're trying to put me down!

Impersonal nicknames like babe/babes/baby

AnnUumellemahaye · 14/04/2020 06:38

you can tell when people are seeing it as an opportunity to perform in front of an audience just because there are others around. It makes me feel pressured to give them attention and I just don't have the energy for people like that.

Oh god yes. I’ve known a few people like this - such blatant attention seekers. In fact any form of blatant attention seeking, fishing for compliments and people who are bit too keen to blow their own trumpets really get the side eye from me.

GreatGiantess · 14/04/2020 09:14

@Wolfgirrl Making it a thing. Whilst resting my proverbial pint on random short woman's head.

And to my sister in law who is very short, quite bossy but actually rather lovely. I think in her head she's a Great Giantess.

SerenDippitty · 14/04/2020 09:52

men with short arms are a turn-off

Especially if they have deep pockets too

AnnUumellemahaye · 14/04/2020 10:20

Do some men have short arms? Confused

I know some people have long legs and some people have short legs, but aren't arms always just proportionate to your size and height overall? Unless someone has a disability or medical condition that affects their limbs I can't say I've ever looked at anyone and thought 'Oh..nice face but short arms. Shame.' Confused

TenToTheDozen · 14/04/2020 10:38

@AnnUumellemahaye The length of your forearm is the same as the length of your foot, so perhaps it's any man who has a foot size which is disproportionately small compared to hut height?
