To think that different pasta shapes have different flavours.

I know that it’s most likely all in my mind and influenced by the sauces they’re typically in. But, I do think that, for example, fettuccine tastes different to spaghetti.
And macaroni definitely tastes different to any other pasta.
So am I being unreasonable?

YANBU! And are definitely correct.
I hate spaghetti. And farfelle.
My favourite flavour pasta is gemelli. Then campanelle and radiatore(?sp). I like rigatoni if they're quite al dente.

I agree. I love pasta but hate fusilli.

morecoffeerequired · 09/04/2020 00:19

Easter egg chocolate tastes different to all other chocolate, especially the thick edge bit of the ones that are in two separate halves.

And I definitely agree about macaroni.

YANBU.

My young adult DS feels vindicated! He eats loads of pasta and has always maintained the different shapes taste different, so I voted on his behalf. He's delighted that at the time of posting 68 per cent of voters agree with him Grin

DH won't eat conchiglie because "shells taste different to swirls and tubes" Confused mostly he eats it plain or with butter (?) So it isn't as if the topping changes the flavour for him. It's like living with a toddler Grin

I associate shells with a buttery taste as my mum used to serve it with butter melted into it. It was lovely and shells are my favourite shape

@LittleLittleLittle has hit the nail on the head

Wishandwonder · 09/04/2020 04:25

@morecoffeerequired I heard Easter chocolate actually has more oil in it to allow it to be shaped into an egg which changes the taste.

Reginabambina · 09/04/2020 04:40

They actually hold the sauce differently so the overall taste of you fish will be affected by the shape iyswim.

Does 9 days old count as a zombie thread?

Anyway, you are right OP.

I love spaghetti and fusilli. I'm not keen on penne (it tastes sort of powdery) or rigatoni.
