DS (13), some SEN, is so reluctant to do any work. Everything is set online and each piece of work requires watching slideshows via multiple apps.
BBC Bitesize, Show my homework, power points. He is missing the teaching part and really isn't understanding work just by looking at these online presentations.
In school he works with a learning support assistant.
We've never has to work like this. He is hostile and won't let me sit with him when he is working. I have set up the laptop with a desktop shortcut to everything he needs and printed out worksheets for him.
Every day is a massive struggle and we usually achieve an hour or so.
AIBU to think this isn't working for him?

Have you contacted the SENCO? If the school is a good one, they will be adapting work for students with SEN who are struggling- but they need to know there’s a problem to be able to fix it.

Yanbu, is there any way you could ask the school to put you in touch with his learning support assistant? Maybe they could do some online Zoom meetings with your son and help him understand some of the material, and also talk to him about how to work with you more effectively.

A very difficult situation, all I would say is don’t push too hard as he might switch off all together. Contact the school and ask for help.
