Boob or bust - surely that's not right??!!

I've not bought bras in a long time, about 20 years ago I was measured in M&S as 34a... I've not massively changed size over the years (no kids) when I do put on weight it goes around my stomach not my boobs.

Decided I would measure myself using boob or bust method and it has me at 30FF Hmm seriously can't see how this can be right? For a start, I can't see how I've lost 4 inches from the band(?) size.

Has anyone else used this method and found their new size to fit well?

Boob or Bust never works for me. Certainly with M&S and the other brands I use the old sizing is a much better fit.

Probably about right. I found similar, though I think I tried some on and ended up in a DD cup. And o think I went one bigger than the band size they recommend. Still wildly different from the size id always worn and their suggestion wasn't far off

The suggested sizes are just a start point, but they're Normally close enough to figure out the adjustment- up or down one band, one cup etc. Whereas starting from the old measurements you're so far away that you'd probably never land on the right size

I swear M & S measures everyone as a 34B! I thought I was that size for years even though looking back I was clearly a much smaller band size. Luckily I was measured at Bravissimo when I'd had my first and was breastfeeding who put me in a very comfy 36E. God knows what M&S would have sized me as!

M&S put me at 34AA. I’m a 28D. Years of backache has gone.

Boob or Bust is brilliant for me personally. Turns out I'm a 28E/F and now I no longer have to keep hoiking my bra down through the day because the band actually stays where it's meant to. Most of the time I forget I'm wearing a bra Grin

That's interesting about the 'taking off your bra at the end of the day' feeling - I don't get it either and would happily wear my current bra all the time.

Ok, can someone tell me what size I am, as I can't seem to find the Boob or Bust instructions?

Just measured myself and I'm 27" around my ribcage, 34" around the fullest part.
M&S measured me fairly recently as a 32DD, but I have 30DDs from John Lewis that fit a bit better.

34a is 2 fried eggs- does that describe your boobs?

BuffaloCauliflower · 08/04/2020 18:12

Here you go @Runningonempty84 - you need 4 measurements for this one. But based on that I’d say you’re about a 28E or F

I was in 34d as a teen.
Discovered Bravissimo after one of their first shops opened. Turned out I was a 30F.

I'm now in a 32G after two kids but m&s bras just don't fit me 🤷‍♀️

Reality is hardly any women are As and Bs, and not many are Cs. Some are of course, but much fewer than are wearing those sizes. A C cup is 3 inches bigger overbust (around the fullest part) that under (around your rib cage), each boob sticking out by 1.5inches is really not very much.

There’s also so much confusion about cups, many people think a D or an F is a size in and of itself, it’s not. It’s how many inches bigger than the band the cup is, and that will obviously change as the band changes. Not helped if you get 4-5 inches added unnecessarily to your band measurement! No one measures their waist as 30inches then buys jeans with a 34inch waist, so why do it with bras?

A cup = 1 inch bigger the band
B = 2 inches bigger
C = 3 inches bigger
D = 4 inches bigger
DD = 5 inches bigger
F = 6 inches bigger

And so on and so forth. The cup exists only in relation to the band. A 28F cup is not the same as a 36F cup but on a different sized band

Boob or bust measurement is great!

^ What @BuffaloCauliflower said. Cup size depends entirely on band size, hence why so many women use a calculator like the BoB one and cry "but I can't possibly be this size!" We've been conditioned to think anything DD+ is big when in reality a DD cup is quite small, especially if you have a small underbust measurement. I'm a 28E/F and barely have a handful and they more or less disappear when I lie on my back 😂😂

I tried the measurements on boob or bust after rave reviews. Was wearing a 34c and it put me at a 34GG. Not correct for me so I don’t know what I was doing wrong with my measurements.

Went to bravissimo for a fitting. She took one look at me in my 34c bra and guessed my size at 34DD. Which was a perfect fit.

I find I'm in the 32B family. If I can actually find something smaller than a 32 back, I sit better and make the most of my bust in a 30C or 28D.

Pre-pregnancy I wore 34B. By the time breastfeeding established I was a 34F and found I didn't need to accomodate my back, just extra bust. I had a disagreement with the M&S fitter at 35 weeks pg about sizing as she wanted me to go up back sizes just because when my growth was clearly paying no attention to averages. We also disagreed on the timing of the fitting as at 35 weeks and already significantly compromised by SPD, it took all my physical stamina to park in the nearest P&C space, enter the nearest door and stagger painfully across the shop. I'm not quite sure how I should have been expected to get my body into the shop a week or two later when I had ceased to be able to leave the house independently. As it happened I did need to break into the hospital bag bras at 38 weeks but that was remedied by buying online.

I went from a 40DD to a 36GG and the different in my shape and comfort is unreal. That website is amazing!

M&S put me in a 40H
I'm actually a 34K

I’ve worn a 34B for years. Just measured using boob or bust and coming in at 32E/F. Will this not be gigantic on my (very) small boobs?

Report
BuffaloCauliflower · 09/04/2020 09:16

@Shotofvodka no. Read my post above! 32E isn’t very big, and you’ll probably find your boobs aren’t as small as you think when fitted into a properly fitted bra. Right now you’re squashing then in a cup that’s too small, put your hands in the cup and swoop all the breast tissue up and forward and see how it fits then

I decided to try this after reading this thread and it’s put me at a 36E! O haven’t been measured in years and usually grab a 38B or C depending on where it’s from.

I’ve ordered a Tshirt bra in the Boux Avenue sale in that size to see how it fits.

awkwardbuttons · 09/04/2020 10:12

It put me at a 30FF, I ordered some bras in that size and they looked laugh out loud funny..not even close to being right, utterly enormous cup and tiny band for me. Measured myself the traditional way and that is a far better fit.

Would rather a looser band, I hate that over spill back fat look.

Out of curiosity a while ago when in M&S I asked to be measured, they told me I was a 32B after measuring me.

I laughed, a lot, I walked in wearing a 34H cup.

They handed me a bra and they didn’t contain my nipples never mind my boobs! I’m a 34H/HH. As measured by bravissimo, and what I’ve been wearing for the last 4 years.
How they come up with 34B is baffling!! You only have to look at me and see I have big boobs!
