Does this look like eczema? Pictures.

Posting here for AIBU traffic.

I'm suspecting it because there's a couple of family members on DPs side who suffer from it.
Also reluctant to waste GP time if it's unnecessary so wanted to get advice on here first.

2yo seems to have cracked/irritated skin on the tips of some of his fingers. Especially the thumb of his right hand where it almost looks like it's peeling. His palms look quite dry/wrinkly as well. For the past 2 nights he has been co-sleeping with us which we've never done before but I have noticed that throughout the night he is rubbing his hands together a lot which is making me suspect it's itchy/uncomfortable.

He also seems to have a bit of a rash on the outside of his hand and inside wrist, not very red just lots of teeny bumpy spots which are very hard to take a picture of and also has a little patch of it at the side of his face.
I've been putting Aveeno skin relief moisturiser on his whole body after bath and making sure I use plenty on his hands. We are very careful not to over wash them and 4yo who washes his hands the same amount has no symptoms.

Rash on his face is the same as on his hand.

Is it eczema or could it be something else?

Is this a recent thing and does he suck his thumb and fingers, OP? The picture of his thumb looks bit like it has teeth marks in it.

Doesn't look like eczema to me, more of a rash or allergic reaction. They look like tiny red bumps and eczema is dry, flaky, scaley, and patchy.

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 07/04/2020 20:02

That doesn't look like eczema

Nothingfallingdowntoday · 07/04/2020 20:08

Could be eczema. My daughter had it on her cheeks and it looked like that. It fooled the GP and took a consultant derm to diagnose it was just plain old eczema and cleared up with his prescription.

@MacavityTheDentistsCat he doesn't suck his thumb no. It's on most of his finger tips but the thumb is the worst.

He has the same rash like on his face on the outside of the hand and inside wrist. Sometimes I can also see lots of the little bumps in and around his fingers under the right light.

It's the incessant hand rubbing throughout the night making me think it's itching/irritating.

Should I be contacting the GP or would they class it as unimportant at the current time?

My dd sometimes has a rash like the one on your child's face, it tends to break out like that when she's run down / heading for a cold, the thumb and fingertips look similar to contact dermatitis, I'd phone pharmacy first then if no help the GP. 2 is still very young so don't hesitate to contact the GP, even though I understand your reasons for holding off.

They'll probably prescribe an anti fungal and or hydrocortisone for fingers.

Possibly hand foot and mouth.
Check their feet too

P999 · 07/04/2020 21:09

I would contact your GP, yes. You could do in temotely and send pics. It looks like it could be eczema, or contact detmatitis. Maybe he touched something then touched his face? A touch of hydrocotisone would probably clear it. Vaseline might also help. But he's uncomfortable. Contact the GP!
