What on earth have I found buried in our garden?!

Recently moved house and due to lockdown and decent weather have finally decided to tackle the garden.

I was digging up the very far corner of the garden and found whatever this is buried about 2 inches under the soil and covered in leaf litter, my DP thinks it is part of an old radio but I think part of an old computer as I spy a USB port, and I cant fathom why somebody would bury an old radio. Can anybody shed light on what this is?

Iv got a horrible feeling about it Confused

It's not that old if it has micro Ian ports - joe long have you lived there?

Ridingthegravytrain · 07/04/2020 19:16

I thought you were going to say you’d found my husband 😂

Distressingtimes · 07/04/2020 19:17

@LadyMonicaBaddingham come on! WTH did they do with it, more importantly what did they discover about it? Who is burying an ice cream van with no good reason?

Poor @bunintheoven88 enquiry has paled in comparison to an ice cream van buried in a garden (sorry op)

Gingernaut · 07/04/2020 19:18

I found shotgun cartridges.

woodencoffeetable · 07/04/2020 19:18

we found a hamster cage

cdtaylornats · 07/04/2020 19:19

It looks small to be a motherboard I would say a controller board for something like a central heating boiler with a small d-link port for a laptop to do diagnostics.

bunintheoven88 · 07/04/2020 19:20

The people we bought it off are really odd, our next door neighbor's have told us some stories about strange noises coming from the house when they lived there, we also found an old pair of knickers shoved under a bird bath.

They have moved not far down the road, the husband has said a few odd things to us too and just get an off feeling about him.

Also he was disgusted we had cut down the pampas grass when he passed by yesterday, maybe he is worried about what else we might find Shock

I'm think a discarded radio. Your second picture shows an inductor - a dark grey metal rod with wire wrapped around it. I think this type of inductor is common in radios but rare in other devices. It also looks like there might be speakers on it.

The USB connector is a Mini-B type. This dates it as April 2000 at the earliest, because that's when that connector was introduced. The connector could simply be for a charging cable, or it might be a combined radio and mp3 player or suchlike. But it's probably not very recent because nowadays most devices have switched to the smaller micro-USB.

Whatever it is, it's old and beat up. Even if it was some sort of spying device, it hasn't worked in years.

I feel sorry for anyone who ever goes digging/ renovating in my childhood garden! There is at least 5 hamsters, a dog and a few rabbits in there.

Paleninteresting · 07/04/2020 19:24

Ice cream vans, motorbikes and pampas grass. It’s the thread that keeps giving.

maras2 · 07/04/2020 19:29

So 'sex people' then. Wink (knickers, pampas grass)
Any chance of finding a hard drive?
Not for blackmail purposes. oh no. Just handy to know. Smile

Deathraystare · 07/04/2020 19:29

LadyMonicaBaddingham - Damn! Your stealth boast beats mine! I was going on here to say about the old garden roller that was buried in your garden (and loads of milk bottles)!

Deathraystare · 07/04/2020 19:29

In my garden, not yours!!!

MrAlyhakinsMassiveYacht · 07/04/2020 19:30

A friend of mine wondered why the grass was dead in the middle of her lawn and eventually found 2 doors buried a few inches underneath ground level.

But an entire ice cream van??

WizardOfAus · 07/04/2020 19:30

Ive got a horrible feeling about it

LOL

Witchend · 07/04/2020 19:31

Your garden is a Dalek's graveyard.

BMW6 · 07/04/2020 19:31

One of my siblings found a double mattress buried in their garden not long after they'd bought the house.

They had been perplexed by the bounciness of that area of lawn and dug down to investigate.

Who the fuck does that weird shit?

ThankyouKindlyForYourTimeSir · 07/04/2020 19:32

It's nothing to get excited about. Why do you have a horrible feeling?

When we were doing our garden, we dug up a dress and a pair of shoes within close proximity to each other. It really freaked us out! I flinched every time I hit something hard in the soil after that! Shock I can confirm no bones were found...yet...

WhereYouLeftIt · 07/04/2020 19:33

I was going to say it looks like the motherboard of a washing machine until you mentioned the USB port and posted the picture of it in your hand - it's a quarter of the size of the one I watched the repairman replace.

So my second guess would be out of a computer.

ThankyouKindlyForYourTimeSir · 07/04/2020 19:33

Yes my nan found a whole car buried in her back garden 50years ago. They dug it up to create a big pond. It was common for people to bury old cars as it cost a lot to scrap them...apparently!

StuckInnTheMiddle · 07/04/2020 19:36

Old circuit board, not at all interesting.

Someone better come on here and explain about the ice cream van though!

BovaryX · 07/04/2020 19:37

The ice cream van burial and resurrection requires more details! @LadyMonicaBaddingham

Devlesko · 07/04/2020 19:37

It's an old circuit board, I used to build and solder bits to these in the 80's, coz I have tiny hands and could get into the little bits when adding a plug, wires and fitting into huge cases, to form a VDU.
I don't know why you'd have a funny feeling about it.
Kids build them.

EllaEllaE · 07/04/2020 19:39

Hm, if the previous owners were creepy, and then you discovered they had buried an old graphics card in the garden, you might start to think the worse. I'm sure I would. yuk.
