Posted this on here as I’m not sure what topic it should go into!

My childminding business has effectively been closed by the Coronavirus outbreak. I’ve never had to claim benefits before and I’m not familiar with the system, but from what I can see I’m only eligible for JSA, so that’s what I’ve applied online for. Does anyone have any idea how long it is taking them to process applications at the moment? Appreciate it will probably be much longer than normal. Thanks

Are you self employed?

If you have put in a self assessment tax form to the tax office then they will hopefully send you money May/June time !! it’s worked out on the amount of profit you have made over the last three years.

Have you applied for contribution based 'new style' JSA - have you been paying the right NI contributions and do you live with a partner that earns too much for you to qualify for Universal credit?

And yes you have been trading more than a year and submitting a tax return then you should be getting something in a few months time - you will be contacted by HMRC.

Don't forget for JSA you have to be actively looking for work.
