Am I the only one who is sick to their back teeth of these sorts of posts, on community and personal pages?

People looking for a bit of the limelight, acting like a pillar of the community, talking a load of shite instead of concerning themselves more with their actual private lives and own well being?

Don't get me wrong, we are in need of more altruistic people in this world, though I can't help but feel it's all rather insincere and mainly coming from wanting to derive a sense of self-gratification/to be put on a pedestal.

Are they volunteering actually helping others or virtue signalling without any action.

EmeraldShamrock · 07/04/2020 10:17

I re-read I assume volunteering taking on loads of shit. If no one done it people would starve, I admire their bravery while I hide away indoors.

YANBU. Truly good people who go out of their way to help others don't waste time boasting about it on SM. It's the unsung heroes who help others quietly and modestly, without any expectation or hope of recognition who deserve our thanks.
The only acceptable SM exposure (IMO) would be if someone were requesting help to meet a target, e.g. "The Village Group has been able to provide 50 hot meals to isolated residents, but we need more - any help gratefully received" etc

@Circe32 'Truly good people who honour of their way to help others don't waste time boasting about it on SM.'

You've hit the nail on the head. Yes, there are lots of posts signposting residents and vulnerable groups, though the ostentatious ones seem to outweigh those.

Also the self-drafted posts ranting about ignorance. They can't bloody well hear you! The constant news updates...

Give it a feckin rest will ya!

go out not honour.

I’ve found my people! Irritating me so much, particularly because the people doing it haven’t moved off their arses to actually help anyone.

KelloggPopsOfCoco · 07/04/2020 11:29

@Jimmers Great minds...

Welcome to the club!

I agree, there was a similar thread to this on Saturday. It got pulled despite no posts being deleted. Apparently you’re not allowed to call out smug grandstanding.

KelloggPopsOfCoco · 07/04/2020 12:15

@SlipSlidin perhaps it hit a nerve with MNHQ?

What bothers me is the herd mentality, and I work with some of these people. Also the constant barrage of homeschooling diaries.

It's really getting to me. Might just step away for a while. Hmm

I’m not on fb or similar. The post I made referred to a local page my friend had screenshot me where a neighbor of ours was spraffing shite about how marvellous it was that everyone was being so nice to each other. This guy is a nasty bastard. It was the hypocrisy I was objecting to but I got targeted by a poster determined to imply I and others on the thread were miserable shits for not buying into the crap.
