I couldn't believe what I read today.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8183763/Sell-one-yachts-Outrage-billionaire-Sir-Philip-Green-asks-taxpayer-help.html

Remember his wife took 1.2billion in dividends in 2005? They pay no tax as it's based in Monaco

Now he wants us to pay his staff?!? He took 864million last year?!?

Aibu?

All this nonsense about Philip Green been an excellent business man, I'm pretty sure he had bled most of his companies dry. I remember reading about the 1b dividend as I used to work in the industry. He essentially loaded the company with debt, which would have taken some time to be paid back even in the golden years & let's face it most fashion brands don't stay at the peak performance for years & years. He then started messing about with quality & supplier payment terms to save money.

It's outrageous he's a Sir!

Makeitgoaway · 06/04/2020 11:32

The footballers aren't asking for any taxpayer support and they contribute well to the system. The clubs OTOH should also be ashamed of themselves

mochajoes · 06/04/2020 11:34

@Lenny1980 I don't have a problem with footballers pay in so much as I don't support a team, watch matches, but kit so it's not my money. However I think it takes incredible chutzpah for a football club to furlough it's ground staff when they have players earning millions. It's incredibly bad PR!

Wehttam · 06/04/2020 11:34

I’m not surprised, in fact I’m more shocked he didn’t drove his boat up the Thames with a banner off the side saying ‘You’re on your own Arcadia employees, UK gov they’re your problem now, but I expect you all back to work as soon as possible so you can start paying me again!’

AlwaysCheddar · 06/04/2020 11:36

Richard Branson is the same..... majority shareholder of Virgin Atlantic with a million/billion £ net worth and doesn’t pay tax.

mochajoes · 06/04/2020 11:37

Sir Philip & others like him will argue he or at least did employ thousands who in turn payed NI & tax & this contributes to the economy.

HopeYouStepOnALego · 06/04/2020 11:43

Green and Branson are both scum. Both more concerned about hanging on to their yachts and islands and maintaining their luxury lifestyles than paying their employees. I'll personally never shop in an Arcadia Group store again and I would hope others would follow suit.

florisandyoris · 06/04/2020 11:44

Philip Green is dodgy af and it’s a disgrace that he’s run rings around this govt re pension raids and tax avoidance. He’s a thug in a suit.

Saying that my friend is a buyer for Debenhams and they have just gone into administration so her life is going to be turned upside down. Horrific outcome for their staff.

DGRossetti · 06/04/2020 11:51

Sir Philip & others like him will argue he or at least did employ thousands who in turn payed NI & tax & this contributes to the economy.

So it's official UK tax policy that if you can get your minimum-wage workforce to pay their taxes (not quite sure how they can "choose" not to do so") then you - as recipient of multimillions - don't have to ?

Not quite sure that makes things better or worse ?

GulliBelle · 06/04/2020 11:53

Id call him a cunt, but cunts have warmth and depth.I

I will, however, call him a vile oxygen thief.

mochajoes · 06/04/2020 12:03

@DGRossetti I'm not saying it's right but that is the nonsense he will spout

GulliBelle · 06/04/2020 12:04

And you can be sure that Philip Green was being subsidised by the taxpayer via tax credits and benefits to his minimum wage staff.

mochajoes · 06/04/2020 12:09

of course just like the fact his business relied on the travel infrastructure - aeroplanes, roads, ports of this country that his taxes don't pay for.

The trouble is over the last few decades the 0.1% have gotten considerable richer & are in a bubble. A normal person would feel guilty that some of their staff lost jobs, pensions & livelihoods whilst they were mulling over what wood stain to use on one of their yachts.

Lenny1980 · 06/04/2020 12:14

@mochajoes couldn’t agree more.

I have not seen anywhere that footballers are saying they won’t take a cut to fund others. But they are objecting to it being a blanket amount across them all which I think is fair enough. A young lad who plays in the reserves for Norwich will have completely different financial circumstances to established first team players from Liverpool.

strawberry2017 · 06/04/2020 12:15

You just have to look at what he did to BHS to know he only cares about himself and his money.
Men like him and Richard Branson shouldn't receive any help from the government- it should be for businesses that actually need it, oh and the ones that actually pay full tax!

viques · 06/04/2020 12:15

florisand yoris

he's a thug in a suit

This could be like that shopping game.

Phillip Green is a thug in a suit.

Phillip Green is a fat thug in a suit.

Phillip Green is a fat thug in a badly fitting suit.

Phillip Green is an unprincipled fat thug in a badly fitting suit.

Phillip Green is a tax dodging ,unprincipled fat thug in a badly fitting suit.

I could be here some time...........

LoopyGremlin · 06/04/2020 12:20

I’ve never shopped in an Arcadia shop since the BHS pension scandal. Odious little man.

Winterwoollies · 06/04/2020 12:22

He is a revolting fat pig. Actually, that’s unkind to pigs.

TheQueef · 06/04/2020 12:24

Can I throw Mike Ashley in this bin?
Another very rich bottom feeder.

effiehabb · 06/04/2020 12:27

He's a complete Cockwomble

mochajoes · 06/04/2020 12:34

. A young lad who plays in the reserves for Norwich will have completely different financial circumstances to established first team players from Liverpool.

agree with that & it should be proportionate.

DianaT1969 · 06/04/2020 12:34

Stelios took £60 million out of Easyjet in mid-March in dividends. Long after the virus started affecting travel, large-scale events and Italy. Millions more went to other easyJet shareholders. They'll be asking for tax payer her. Fuckers.

@TheQueef

Can I throw Mike Ashley in this bin?

YOU are being VVVU to think this is a question that even needs asking or requires confirmation. Just make sure it’s the most slimy, revolting bin that ever existed and close the lid firmly on Ashley and Green on your way out.

Cam2020 · 06/04/2020 13:20

@TheQueef great idea, I've seen you gov petitions for less!
