Is your daily diet different now?

AIBU to find it a bit hard to plan so we get a reasonable amount of veg in now? We are managing to get food deliveries but fresh stuff hit or miss, often removed from our order at the last minute with no way to choose a different thing.

Not a big problem in the grand scheme of things obviously, we're fortunate to have stuff to eat, but it made me think that there might be people struggling to get a balanced diet at all. Are you eating differently now, either odd combinations or less food in general?

I think I am eating better. I am a key worker but working from home most of the time so I have access to better cooking n storage facilities. I am meal planning and doing my best not to waste any food. And I am not commuting so have more time to prepare food. I shop once a week but go first thing in the morning getting there before the supermarket doors open so the shop is always well stocked and I don't struggle to get anything. I am aware I am lucky though - I know this probably isn't the average experience

BogRollBOGOF · 05/04/2020 23:42

Eating better as there's more time to cook without rushing around in the evenings. No lazy McDonalds at the weekend either Blush

I'm shopping in the supermarkets. Due to intolerances, I have to go to supermarket 1 for milk substitute and supermarket 2 for bread. I can't get them both in one shop locally, but that does help with plugging the gaps a bit.

Yes, we're meal planning with military precision too. I've always tried to not waste food but trying harder now.

Eating better. Planning meals and much less waste.

As we are both at home and I'm quite ill we are also eating more simple meals. Dinner is as likely to be a cold plate or an omelette.

Still getting fat, but that's probably all the cake...

Itslookinglikeabeautifulday · 05/04/2020 23:45

Sadly, more sweet/unhealthy stuff as eating through boredom then comfort eating while working from home. If exercise is banned I am doomed!

EL8888 · 05/04/2020 23:45

Less planning and more spontaneous depending on what the supermarkets have. We have probably eaten more treats to cheer ourselves up. Now thinking more fruit and veg -we are normally vegetarian 4 days a week but that has slipped

Spacerader · 05/04/2020 23:46

Yes, my diet has gone downhill. I eat more snacks and def to much chocolate. I seem to be living on Christmas rules 😂

browzingss · 05/04/2020 23:47

Honestly I feel like I’m eating worseSad

Usually I’d be out of the house most of the day, so I’d eat out all the time. Don’t get me wrong, it would be healthy, as I would have more control/choice

Now that I’m going to the shops less frequently and am stuck at home (very weird for me), it’s a bit of a culture shock. I’m finding it hard to buy a weeks worth of fruit/veg, either the shops have short dated items or it takes up too much fridge space. I’m instead grazing on snacks a lot Sad

NotEverythingIsBlackandwhite · 05/04/2020 23:49

Struggling to buy vegetables (fresh or frozen) and am eating worse. I am having plenty of sandwiches whereas I don't normally buy bread - just once in a blue moon. Am having too many carbs but hopefully, as the supermarket situation improves, my diet will.

ShanghaiDiva · 05/04/2020 23:50

Odd combinations here.
We have a list on the fridge of item and date. Obviously as I go once a week all the yummy stuff gets eaten in record time and then we are left with the bag of frozen mixed veg that seems to be all cauliflower, half a forgotten tub of creme fraiche and some sausages that apparently nobody likes.
I have taken to hiding some snacks in the cupboard under the stairs. Has a look today and the packet of kitkats is just an empty bag. Thank you so much my lovely children.

recklessruby · 05/04/2020 23:51

To be honest I am hardly eating at all except cereal and fruit. I m just not motivated. We actually have cupboards of food that I dont feel like eating.
I get like it when I m depressed, which I m fighting against right now.
No work always affects me badly.
Ds and dd eating more though.

Tiredoutteacher2020 · 05/04/2020 23:52

I'm eating better. I am eating more fruit and veg, cooking more and not having any takeaways/eating out. It's not a perfect diet by any stretch of the imagination but definitely a slight improvement.

Malbecmama · 05/04/2020 23:53

I'm definitely spending more. I'm trying to conjure up healthy evening meals but there is a LOT of snacking going on. Mainly beige carbs.

Starlightstarbright1 · 05/04/2020 23:56

I am eating much better drinking far more Gin

QueenofLouisiana · 06/04/2020 00:10

Eating better, no takeaways in the last 3 weeks. More varied veg as it is delivered in a box from the local market-we eat whatever we are sent.

Rest of my family are eating more vegetarian food and less meat.

Too much wine though.

bumblingbovine49 · 06/04/2020 00:15

We have a farm veg box delivery so I am eating better I think..More veg and almost no snacking at all.

safariboot · 06/04/2020 00:16

No more eating sandwiches twice a day, which is probably a good thing.

Buying all the junk food snacks, which is not so good. But with the supermarket item restrictions I can get X healthy stuff and Y junk food, and forgoing the Y doesn't mean I'm allowed more of X! So crisps, chocolate, and cake go in the shopping trolley.

bumblingbovine49 · 06/04/2020 00:17

I haent noticed any " what are you eating" today threads recently Grin

Sounsociable · 06/04/2020 00:18

We're eating better and using up lots of left overs to make soups or adding lentils/pearl barley to make stews. I used to buy chocolate/cake to eat with lunch on my way to work, but now I'm eating fruit, and trying to make 1 chocolate bar last a week! DC arent keen on the soups and stews but they're trying some new things (I added lentils to shepherds pie and even the fussiest one cleared their plate) and eating much less convenience food from the freezer.

justcly · 06/04/2020 00:18

Eating much better, wasting far less. I'm under house arrest shielding so I no longer have access to chocolate. According to my missus it's "not essential". Can't believe that I ended up married to someone who could be so disrespectful about chocolate. It's like my whole life is a lie.

bruffin · 06/04/2020 00:20

I bought a soup maker so making soup for lunch every other day. More time to cook dinner in evening , so do feel we are eating better not that we were eating that bad before. I'm sure I've lost weight

springydaff · 06/04/2020 00:27

I'm eating much better! Or better quality, anyway.

I'm reliant on others shopping for me so I'm getting fabulous meat, fish and copious veg. My food had got a bit boring so I'm enjoying the shakeup.

TheDogsMother · 06/04/2020 00:43

I was a serious meal planner but what we can buy now is a bit unpredictable. We are still eating well and I am getting a bit more imaginative with the ingredients available. I do miss having a whole range of salad stuff but am fortunate with plenty of freezer space for other food types.

MitziK · 06/04/2020 00:44

It's much better. DP has started seeing vegetables as a food group, rather than something that only appears on the plate in abundance when I cook. Been having fruit as well, something he's even worse at getting, as he'd rather have Haribo or an ice cream.
