Too much wine?

Jannahanon · 05/04/2020 15:10

I've got several bottles of wine which were gifted to me at Christmas.
I live alone and have decided to enjoy them and stop saving them "for an occasion"
I don't drink on weekdays. Is one bottle every weekend too much?

OP posts:
DivGirl · 05/04/2020 15:12

No, but if you have concerns I'll take a couple off your hands. And they won't last a weekend.

iklboo · 05/04/2020 15:15

A weekend? No, definitely not. Every day might be a bit OTT though.

Sparklesocks · 05/04/2020 15:17

One bottle over a weekend is fine, when you break it down it’s only a few glasses a day.
Regardless, a lot of people are likely drinking more than usual at the moment. It’s not ideal, but these are not normal times.

Thymelord · 05/04/2020 15:18

One bottle over a weekend?! Give over 🤣 You can't possibly think that is a lot!

NeverYouMind123 · 05/04/2020 15:18

I get through 3 or 4 bottles of wine every weekend, so spread over both Fridays and Saturdays. I live alone. Fuck it!🍷

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 05/04/2020 15:19

Over a weekend a bottle is fine! 🍷

No point saving stuff for best as the “occasion” might never come. If the virus teaches us something should be not to save for best

Thymelord · 05/04/2020 15:20

I'll give it another 4 or 5 posts before the "you have a problem" posters arrive Grin

MouthBreathingRage · 05/04/2020 15:21

My opinion, you're a lightweight, I'd have run out of 'gifted' wines by now. MN's opinion will be that you're a raging alcoholic though. So you're probably on the right side of fine.

PotteringAlong · 05/04/2020 15:21

No

MouthBreathingRage · 05/04/2020 15:22

@Thymelord, there was a thread on here not long ago, the op had 3 glasses of wine with her dinner and was treated like she was the greatest lush of the 21st century....

cardibach · 05/04/2020 15:24

Drink the wine, but please say you were given 6 bottles of wine, not gifted! 😉

tiggertogger · 05/04/2020 15:26

Ha I'm drinking two every day (between us). Enjoy your wine 🍷

Ghostlyglow · 05/04/2020 15:26

Just enjoy your wineSmile. It wouldn't have lasted that long in my houseGrin

Straycatstrut · 05/04/2020 15:45

OP that's nothing!

I had 3 bottles of my fave red in just over a week, the first week of lockdown! I've since bought a bottle of gin, frozen fruit and lemonade because I have gained almost half a stone!

I've ordered a big crystal glass too. It's an early Birthday present Smile

Bluntness100 · 05/04/2020 15:49

I thought you were going to say one a day. I’m not sure why you have to ask, a bottle of wine, is ten units, so you’re still about thirty percent below the weekly safety limit of 14.

Crack on,

Theresnobslikeshowb · 05/04/2020 15:50

I’ve just finished a bottle of vodka in a few days as I’ve run out of wine 🤣

Northernsoullover · 05/04/2020 15:52

I'm sick of seeing 'MN will tell you that you are a raging alcoholic though'. I've never seen anything like that on here. The ones who tell a poster a daily bottle of wine is fine probably drink too much themselves.
The truth is no amount of alcohol is good. Its a poison. The less you drink the less harm it causes. Its simple.
OP a bottle of wine on a weekend is unlikely to do you harm so crack on with it.
If anyone wants to know the truth about alcohol a good book is 'Drink' by Professor David Nutt. Its factual and balanced. You can draw your own conclusions.

DrierThanANunsNasty · 05/04/2020 15:54

“I’ve never seen anything like that on here other than what I just wrote myself”

Excellent work @northernsoullover

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 05/04/2020 16:12

@Thymelord
One bottle over a weekend?! Give over

Took the words right out of my mouth lol

Dollywilde · 05/04/2020 16:16

I have a bottle of crisp Sancerre that has been in my fridge since 6 December, but in my defence I found out I was pregnant on 5 December Grin DH has been banned from touching it, it’s my ‘once this pregnancy is over’ prize to open it and have a glass!

Outside of the above scenario there really is no excuse to keep wine around for more than a week without opening it. YABU

MouthBreathingRage · 05/04/2020 16:29

@Northernsoullover, maybe you haven't seen it, doesn't mean it doesn't happen. The fact you've seen it mentioned enough times suggest other have seen any amount of alcohol drank as 'excessive', which is ridiculous. Though your own comment is very telling in itself.

PhilCornwall1 · 05/04/2020 16:53

He'll no, we did one on Friday, and 2 last night and a half bottle of Prosecco. If you have too many there, you can send a couple this way.

Lippy1234 · 05/04/2020 16:55

You’re having about 10 units a week which is ok, just keep an eye on your consumption in case it creeps up.

JohnCo · 05/04/2020 16:58

tiggertogger Ha I'm drinking two every day (between us). Enjoy your wine 🍷
We are doing the same, we can still get it delivered and it helps to keep us sane (it is probably going to damage my liver and my bank balance though)

BiBiBirdie · 05/04/2020 16:59

OP, drink the lot.
I'm usually a weekend only drinker but I've been drinking a couple of g&TS a night to take the boredom off
I will return to my former behaved self when life returns to a semblance of normality
But for now, we drink
