Neighbours & Music

So we had new neighbours move in next door beg of the year.
Informed us the company he works for wanted him to do a live DJ set Friday night. I was ok with this, one off. Ended at 9pm so I was okay with this.
Yesterday he informed DP that he was doing another last night and that would be it for a month.
Now it's not just music. Its the FULL DJ set, bass, speakers, lights, smoke machine?! It went on till 10pm. (I know its not the cut off for 11 but my DP is a keyworker and needed to get up for 4am) they also had a friend round!
DF has said theres a post on his FB page saying another in 2 weeks unless he gets bored..
AIBU to think I can't live with every Friday/Saturday night every weekend with 2 young kinds who were crying because they couldn't sleep for the WHOLE of lockdown? I also had a headache from it to the point I'd thrown up. Not to mention my GF is in hospital very poorly awaiting results from CV.
Someone bring me back to normality...

I would pop a note through the door explaining what you have in your post. Say that you really appreciate him giving you the heads up etc but every weekend until 10pm is too much for your household to manage. Ask him if there is another way around it (shed in the back garden maybe). He probably doesn't realise it's an issue as he gave the heads up and he wont know and have a chance to fix it unless you let him know.

Flavarings · 05/04/2020 10:30

The shed in the garden will be just as loud. Its not the normal stereo music. Its the full shabam!
Other neighbours have also complained about the noise too. So may tell them to pop a note through too.
Were okay with once in a while (say maybe one night a month) but not both days every single week..
If he gives us the heads up again I will just have to say im sorry but id rather you didn't. (1st time was the company he works for wanted him to do it. A few friends know him. Its his own company!)
Possibly doing a video during the day and uploading it at night is an option? I don't know. Im just tired and stressed!

Definitely post a note saying what you've said here, including your dh being a key worker and up at 4.

I absolutely wouldn't be able to cope with that level of noise, even finishing at 10.

onedayiwillmissthis · 05/04/2020 10:50

So, this is being done as part of his job/business? Is this allowed in a residential area? Check with council.

Flavarings · 05/04/2020 11:27

That's a fair point oneday.. Ill have to ring tomorrow.
My friend said about decibels being played only for a certain amount of time a day.

Cant he use headphones?

mencken · 05/04/2020 11:39

am I missing something? On the assumption that he doesn't have a live audience, the speakers can be turned right down. The audience is watching over the internet and can turn it up at home (or hopefully use headphones if they aren't total selfish pigs)

having the friend round is of course against the rules.

OlaEliza · 05/04/2020 11:42

He's trying to go viral like the people in Italy and Spain. He's an idiot. Drop him a note and tell him to pack it in.

Flavarings · 05/04/2020 12:19

It was definitely a live FB link. Unsure of the amount of people watching as im not on FB myself, but you can see the page if that makes sense?
Somebody had commented that you're legally allowed music till 11pm! (luckily his GF said no because of the neighbours)

He doesn't need it that loud does he? Im not just being a spoil sport party ruiner am I?

OP posts:
mencken · 05/04/2020 12:26

no, you aren't. He's a selfish fucker. He can do his job with the sound OFF over headphones and dance around that way, as can everyone listening.

smoke in a respiratory pandemic is another dickhead move.

he sounds seriously stupid so try to explain in short words and big letters. Hope he can work it out.

Flavarings · 05/04/2020 12:36

I was debating whether to call the police. As he had a friend also.. But also don't want to be that annoying neighbour

OP posts:
Fuckmyliferightnow · 05/04/2020 13:20

He'll be a DJ streaming live on Facebook or Instagram, there will be an audience and in some cases people have businesses providing a platform for these DJs. I watch these lives streams and they tend to finish earlier in the week, which isn't any better given that everyone is stuck indoors.
It's annoying but these people aren't able to go out and earn.
Could you talk and compromise on an earlier time in the day?

Flavarings · 05/04/2020 14:25

We was originally told 9 half 9 the latest and it went in till 10. Fair enough its half hour/an hour. But still...
I understand that but he also has a day job hes doing so he is earning money still. In his words "if he gets bored". I dont mind music playing, but the full set is what annoyed me. Theres no need for it to be as loud as hes doing it. (its as loud as in pubs/bars)

Marieo · 05/04/2020 14:28

No, that sounds horrendous. He can do a set with music etc without making that much noise, I can't imagine his enhancements are gripping viewers, it bad enough when DJs in nightclubs do this, let alone when you're watching in your jammies at home.

Lunafortheloveogod · 05/04/2020 14:52

There’s one up the road from us who does it in his front garden at the moment.. he uses the Facebook live for requests maybe he does the same thing, like it wouldn’t be the same watching 3 hours of songs you hate as being able to get something you like on?

It’s a pain in the arse here too.. think the only ones watching him are off their heads on something, you’d have to be to stand the racket. Fortunately ours stops by half 8 at the latest after a mum closer to him had some rather loud stern words about her kids sleep... least he got the message.

Definitely tell him about the 4am rises and that it’s painfully loud in your property too. He can sound proof a room for it.

mencken · 05/04/2020 18:30

fortunately facebook is down so there is hope!

why are these people so stupid? It does not need the full volume!!
