to remind you that we are actually allowed outside?

I am following social distancing guidelines.

I am not seeing friends or family.

I am getting nearly all my food delivered online.

I am going out once a day for my allowed daily exercise. Yes, to my local park, because I live in London, in a flat with a 4 year old and no garden.

I am constantly seeing threads on here berating "idiots" for "flocking" to parks and suchlike. But the thing is, if I go to the park for my walk, and see other people there - they aren't "idiots", they are people doing the same thing I'm doing - their ALLOWED daily exercise!

I mean, if you have a garden, bully for you. But I don't, we are allowed out, and I will continue to take my son for a walk in the fresh air once a day.

really.. you might want to research what happened in other countries, and why it's not just about spreading the disease.

Countries like South Korea that have done really well have not only isolated but have tested and tested and tested. The U.K. hasn’t.

YouTheCat · 05/04/2020 11:17

I look forward to having a walk round the block. It's not all that pretty but it'll do to stretch my legs a bit. I live across the road from Jesmond Dene (which is gorgeous) but am avoiding it as it is full of people.

Other than doing a bit of yoga in the house I have no space for indoor exercise.

mencken · 05/04/2020 11:17

exercise not socialise. That's the difference and that's what London doesn't seem to get. And sadly London will suffer most if we are restricted to our properties.

keep separate. Chat on the phone when you get home. It really isn't hard to understand.

mencken · 05/04/2020 11:18

and Newcastle too by the post above.

GrumpiestOldWoman · 05/04/2020 11:18

Why should others do what you are doing?

Because if those who can avoid going out for exercise it reduces the overall number of people being outside and perhaps delays the point at which it's necessary to have stricter controls.

Not every can stay indoors/shop rarely but if those who can actually do it makes life easier - not to mention genuinely safer - for those who genuinely can't.

There is a virus, it can kill you, you catch it from other people - why are people still so determined to increase their chances of contracting it by finding loopholes or stretching the interpretation of guidance to the limit FFS.

HoffiCoffi13 · 05/04/2020 11:19

Good luck for when you get full lockdown 😂

FFS, people are actually relishing the thought of other people struggling aren’t they?
Daily exercise is currently permitted. If you choose not to do that, good for you. Doesn’t make you a better person. If and when daily exercise stops being permitted, I will stop doing it. At the moment, I am using the opportunity to maintain my fitness levels as much as possible and to help my immune system as a result.

Pishposhpashy · 05/04/2020 11:20

Good luck for when you get full lockdown

I don't really get your posts tbh. We don't have a full lockdown yet. When we get one we'll abide by it accordingly. That isn't what this thread is about.

If people in prison can exercise in their 8x6 cells, I'm sure you can find something you can do at home.

GrumpiestOldWoman · 05/04/2020 11:20

the thought of other people struggling

No, I think it's restricted to the people acting like dicks.

NotEverythingIsBlackandwhite · 05/04/2020 11:21

@OlaEliza

A walk round the block or walk to get your shopping.
If the shop is 5 minutes away then that is hardly exercise.
Not everyone lives where they can walk around the block. A block of what?

You need to be aware that people have different life circumstances. They don't all live in an area that is a duplicate of yours.

Pishposhpashy · 05/04/2020 11:21

Literally no one on this thread is acting like a dick though.

Bit we're not there yet, you can take a thing too far Hmm

BeijingBikini · 05/04/2020 11:22

You're not "doing lockdown better" because staying in for 20 days and going out for an hour every day is both following lockdown perfectly.

I'm pretty sure the person who went out for an hour every day will (statistically) have a better outcome due to higher levels of Vitamin D, lower cortisol, better heart and lung function than the person who sat on the sofa with closed curtains for a month. And seeing as we're not doing "welded into your flat" lockdown for 2 years, most of us will get it in that time - they're building the Nightingale and ordering ventilators to have higher capacity to deal with the steady trickle of patients getting ill. I would much rather have a better outcome. Read up on how good Vitamin D is for your immune system.

YouTheCat · 05/04/2020 11:24

It's not even about who's doing lockdown the best. It's about those people who aren't doing it and keep breaking the rules.

The U.K.’s testing is shit beside that of South Korea and Canada. Why aren’t the social media posts about that rather than whether Jane-from-next-door walked through dog on a park? Social distancing is really important but community contact tracing is essential

GrumpiestOldWoman · 05/04/2020 11:26

You don't include the justification of behaviour which increases your chance of catching AND TRANSMITTING a dangerous virus on the basis of 'because the rules don't say I can't ' as dickish behaviour...?

OlaEliza · 05/04/2020 11:26

Suck it up. These aren't normal times where everyone can do exactly as they used to.

Not everyone lives where they can walk around the block. A block of what?

Well a short walk down the road and back. Is it really that hard?

You need to be aware that people have different life circumstances. They don't all live in an area that is a duplicate of yours

I could be a dick here but I won't.

BeijingBikini · 05/04/2020 11:27

@OlaEliza are you Boris? If not, then you don't get to dictate your own personal interpretation of the rules to everyone else. Michael Gove himself said he thought an hour a day was sensible.

MadameBee · 05/04/2020 11:28

Apparently in France you have an allocated hour to go out and a piece of paper which says so and the times you are allowed out at.

OlaEliza · 05/04/2020 11:29

In France you need to get permission by text before going out for anything.

CheddarGorgeous · 05/04/2020 11:30

If people in prison can exercise in their 8x6 cells, I'm sure you can find something you can do at home

  1. small children are not locked up in prison
  2. even prisoners get an hour a day in an exercise yard.

With that attitude why do we even bother with parks and playgrounds and sports facilities at all Hmm People can just stay home Hmm

JinglingHellsBells · 05/04/2020 11:30

@Iris243 Your post scared me.

If one of your children has symptoms, which might be COVID, you are supposed to stay at home. You can use your garden.

Self isolating means you do not go out. Anywhere except your own garden.

If your child had COVID you might h ave it too but be symptom free.

You could still transmit it to others by touching things or coughing or sneezing.

Please understand what isolating means in this context.

OlaEliza · 05/04/2020 11:31

Who am I? I'm someone in Spain who is under complete lockdown and know where you are all headed if you don't start applying common sense and stop taking the piss 🤷

ThatFriendsReunion · 05/04/2020 11:31

In France you are not allowed to go further than a small distance from your home. It's a lot of back and forth if you want to run your daily 5k.

When people are selfish dicks, this happens
