Reflecting back - Suits series helped me tackle the office bully

Hi, I’ve had a lot of thinking time. I looked back at the last couple of years and learnt some things about myself. One thing I noticed was I got oddly addicted to the TV series Suits, I’ve only just realised that it helped me deal with a office bully, it has very strong female role models, I guess I was processing it unconsciously and that why I appeared addicted to the series. I’m fascinated about this deep realisation about myself, as counselling for the bullying did not actually help me, it was a situation I needed to tackle. What has helped you ? have you leant about yourself ?

I was just thinking the other day how we get sub consciously drawn to stuff as a coping method. I just realised I'm reading a specific genre of books I've never been interested in purely as a way of dealing with being stuck indoors. Helps me play out scenarios in my head.
Did you confront your bully or did you just gain inner strength to deal with the crap? I loved Suits and it's characters.

Thankyou it’s great to have someone relate to my experience. Yes it gave me the words and persona to meet with them and have it out. You’re right I played the scenarios in my head until I felt comfortable dealing with it. What genre has helped you ?

@neapolitanicecream

Nothing to add other than well done tackling/dealing with office bully. It’s so draining - I’ve been there. Good on you!

Oh god - don't laugh but sort of zombie stuff!!! You know like the film World War Z when everyone starts looting shops etc. Never in my life have I watched/read stuff like that but it's almost taking all my fears to the nth degree and allowing me to explore scary scenarios. I sound like an oddball don't I!
That's fab that you managed to have it out with your bully. I'm not sure I'd ever have the guts to do that no matter how many times I'd practised. Well done.

This has made me think I should watch suits! I’m about to run out of Hollyoaks (my usual addiction).
For some reason all things historical or rooted in the past are helping me. Not sure whether it’s helping me put current events in contexts or just letting me forget them for a short time.

Coulddowithanap · 04/04/2020 09:50

Maybe I should watch suits.. I have a work place bully, really glad I'm not seeing them at the moment!

I know what you mean. After I got divorced I binge watched rom coms - most of them made me feel worse but the one that helped was Happily Divorced. It helped me get to a place where I was happy by myself. It sounds cheesy writing it down.

Funnily enough, it’s reading Mumsnet that has helped me gain assertiveness skills. I take a lot less shit these days. Which sometimes freaks people out e.g. my sister 🤣

Which characters in Suits were you talking about OP? I'm watching it now and wonder who is the bully!?
