Ok so had sex with bf Thursday night. I’m currently on the pill- (microlite). I usually take it at the same time every night but as my alarm didn’t go if it was fairly erratic. I haven’t missed a pill, I just took it outside of the three hour window. I started a new pack on Tuesday after I finished my period. I took it Tuesday at 2.30am, Wednesday 9.30pm and Thursday 10.30pm (about half an hour after we had sex). Is it worth taking the MAP? I don’t want to do make any unnecessary journeys outside of the house. Maybe I’m overthinking this. Just worried as I always take it at the same time each day. Feeling like such an idiot.

I highly doubt you need to take the MAP.

MySonIsAlsoNamedBort · 04/04/2020 05:45

If it's going to play on your mind and cause you stress I'd take it, I think you would be fine though.

acornhealthcoaching · 04/04/2020 05:47

Microlite is a combined contraceptive pill, so as long as you have taken a pill each day then it doesn't matter what time you took it (not sure where you got the 3 hour window from, this applies to a specific mini pill only). So you shouldn't need the morning after pill.

All contraceptive pills have a failure rate of 7% in the real world though, maybe it's worth considering something like an implant or coil as they have failure rates of less than 1% in the real world Smile

I guess the fact it was a few days after the week long break means the risk is low too.

Feel so stupid

As long as you haven't been missing pills you will be absolutely fine.
Google the pill window, it can be as much as 12 hours out of the window and be fine x

OscarWildesCat · 04/04/2020 08:12

You're overreacting.

acornhealthcoaching · 04/04/2020 08:44

You're not stupid, we're all extra stressed at the moment. If you're ever concerned in the future, the family planning association have a great website with info and the insert from your pill pack should help too. Take care and get some sleep 😊

GreaseRizzo · 04/04/2020 09:47

@acornhealthcoaching I thought microlite was the mini pill? :S

You didn’t miss a pill, you still took it that day and you have since had your withdrawal bleed so there’s no way you’re pregnant.

acornhealthcoaching · 04/04/2020 09:59

@GreaseRizzo You're welcome. I've double checked (had a slight panic), microlite is definitely a combined pill, it has a lower dose of estrogen I believe. I suggest you find the packet and check for yourself though 😊

Sidge · 04/04/2020 10:07

It’s a combined pill, so a 12 hour window not a 3 hour window.

It doesn’t matter what time you take it, as long as you’re taking a pill roughly every 24 hours which you have been. If you miss taking it at your usual time, you’ve got 12 hours from then in which to remember. That might mean taking two in one day - for example you normally seem to take it at bedtime. If you forget and take it at breakfast time (within 12 hours) then you still take another one at your usual time that night.

Did you take your pill Friday evening?

You might find it helpful to keep the insert in the box and read it when you get confused. You can also find the instructions online.

You don’t need emergency contraception.
