Buying own projective gear

So whether it's true or not I heard the NHS staff may have too / have had too purchase their own gloves aprons masks etc due to the shortage.

My DH is a Colour Sergeant in the Marines. In 3 years he will have done his 20 years and will retire. He has been in 7 different war zones. Plus 5/6 exercises a year.

He's always had to purchase his own kit. Yes they are issued certain basic items that quite frankly aren't up to the job.

Just this week he's had to buy a new watch (the most basic one that has everything he needs on it was £170) and boots.

People don't actually believe me when I say he has to pay for his food. boardings and towards his travel. (We live 6 hours from camp). Not to mention the tax and life / kit insurance.

Does anyone else think it's madness that the Armed Forces / NHS / Police / Fire Service etc have to use their own money to do their job?
