To create a cheeseboard for our "date night" ?

fairnessshairmess · 03/04/2020 18:37

Dh and I are having a "date night" once dc have gone to bed and I'm putting together a cheeseboard. So I got everything today when I was shopping.
6 different cheeses, crackers, fruits, nuts, chilli jam, fig jam, and then I also got some meats for the side. Salami, pastrami etc

I was on the phone to my sister, who said and I quote "isn't that a bit excessive given the current situation?!"

Aibu to think we can still enjoy our fave foods/dishes if I can find them!? ConfusedHmm

Omg can I come to your house?! Sounds ideal! Please just enjoy yourselfI! I hate cooking and you've given me a great idea for an easier meal than cooking for seven (4 adults, 3 kids) in lockdown that would be so much nicer to prepare!

KipperTheFrog · 03/04/2020 19:36

Sounds lovely. DH and I are having a Chinese tonight. Roast on sunday. We will also have wine. You can eat what ever you want if you can find it in the supermarket.

fairnessshairmess · 03/04/2020 19:37

Awaah I'm so glad some of you are going to do it too!! Enjoy!

Tell me more about your cheese? I need you to describe it all in pornographic detail because I have no cheese and I am suffering from Envy

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 03/04/2020 19:49

Get some fruit cake in, goes great with cheese.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 03/04/2020 19:50

And you need at least one smoked cheese.

fairnessshairmess · 03/04/2020 19:50

@Stickybeaksid well there's
Manchego
A blue cheese
Brie
A smoked cheese
And Wensleydale with cranberries

Must get kids to bed...🤣

OP your sister is just jealous. Enjoy, with no regrets!

angelikacpickles · 03/04/2020 20:04

Eating nice food is one of the only pleasures we have left! Your sister IBU.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 03/04/2020 20:05

Eat the cheese 🧀 🧀🧀

Life’s for enjoying...we aren’t all dead yet!

EL8888 · 03/04/2020 20:08

Sounds amazing! Loving your thinking. I don’t understand your sisters point. Make sure you enjoy!

Scarlettpixie · 03/04/2020 20:14

She is being ridiculous. Enjoy.

1Wildheartsease · 03/04/2020 20:19

Walking about feeling deprived and miserable (about things that can easily be made right) isn't going to make things better for anyone else!

Sadly, avoiding cheese - chocolate - wine - pate etc. isn't going to create more space or equipment in our NHS hospitals nor will it hasten a cure for the virus.

Enjoy your eve.

GrumpiestOldWoman · 03/04/2020 20:25

I see much confusion on MN. The question is whether the trip to the shop is essential, not whether the items purchased are ALL essential.

Buy cheese as part of a regular grocery shop - fill your boots.

Go on a special trip just to buy naice cheese - not essential.

I love this idea though Star

BurnIt · 03/04/2020 20:25

YABU obviously you should only ne consuming gruel sawdust and dead flies....

Frivolity be damned

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 03/04/2020 20:26

YABVVVVVU because now I urgently require cheese, and frankly all I've got is a Camembert for dinner tomorrow night.

Your cheeseboard sounds amazing - and it's little treats like that which will keep all of us sane as we try to get through this. Enjoy every last bit of it.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 03/04/2020 20:26

I was on the phone to my sister, who said and I quote "isn't that a bit excessive given the current situation?!"

YABU.
Didn't you get the memo - you're only allowed dry crackers.
Maybe a bit of hard cheddar at the back of your fridge if you can find it.
Not all your figs and fancy ways.

This is sarcasm.
YANBU and your sister's a knob.

BlueJava · 03/04/2020 20:35

No of course that's not extravagant. I got us a M&S Indian takeaway tonight for all 4 of us. Butter chicken, naan break, onion bhajis and some really spicy chicken (had to cook our own rice as they had run out). If you can't have a good night in what can you do?!

SidekickSally · 03/04/2020 20:45

GrumpiestOldWoman says it well.

No problem with what you've done, enjoy. Am a tad jealous.

champagneandfromage50 · 03/04/2020 20:46

ooh a cheese board...yum...manchego is good personally i like picos d europa too and membrillo

Madcats · 03/04/2020 20:47

I remember trying to explain to DD, how I always loved Christmas as a child because we could get satsumas.

Savour every mouthful, OP. I have pointed out to my family of hoovers that we need to eat some of the nicer things a bit slower.

We have a few local cheesemakers and an enterprising set of delivery people, so I think we will be ok for cheese. We used to have a couple of markets, brilliant delis and Ocado (oh the joy of not having to visit a supermarket - how I miss delivery slots) but many are deciding to cease trading. I suspect that our diet will be a bit blander by the summer.

Me (with a fridge full of cheese), I am craving a shellfish platter. I'll have to make do with vacu-packed mussels for now.

poshme · 03/04/2020 21:11

You need chaorce.

Other than that- can I come over?
