Admittedly it’s only on our local WhatsApp group...

Opened it this morning and there’s a message from a ‘founder’ member of the group.

“Me, hubs and the kids were out last night making lots of noise for our NHS heroes. Disappointed to see that some of this group don’t care enough to give up 2 minutes of their time!!! Maybe you forgot..(then a list of names including mine). Will be sending you a reminder next week!!”

I know she’s a twat but I’m fuming. I’m not going to dignify it with a reply because she and her little crew of followers love a public war. I’m just going to ignore her but if she thinks she’s forcing me out next week she’s got another bloody think coming.

Tbh if I wasn’t on lockdown I wouldn’t even give it 2 thoughts but I’m winding myself up about it now!

AIBU to think that clapping is not compulsory and nobody else’s business?

You can see how the Stasi had no problem recruiting people in E Germany to report on their neighbours. Or the Salem witch hunts.

It's so spiteful for people to do things like this.

Maybe respond with this 🧙‍♀️.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 03/04/2020 12:40

However, would be interested in: Bang for a Binnie.

You might want to find a different way of phrasing that.... Grin

Purpletigers · 03/04/2020 12:40

Leave a 😂and maybe a 😱🤔
I don’t clap and I’ve no intention of starting.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 03/04/2020 12:42

I liked the suggestion on Twitter that we should all go out and boo Mike Ashley!

thereisfreedomwithin · 03/04/2020 12:42

"Mostly group is really good and we’ve helped each other out quite a bit...eggs for a birthday cake, milk, compost etc, and there are some good people on it but the logical thing to do is leave......But the devilish side of me wants to see what she’s going to do when I don’t go out next week either!"

Absolutely don't leave. Maybe forgive her for being a twat though... I think she channelled her emotions into something she thought was a 100% good thing and got over-engaged. [also - saying you don't have a problem with her will massively give you the upper hand] :)

UnfinishedSymphon · 03/04/2020 12:42

@JonHammIsMyJamm I think you live near me - our local FB group is exactly the same!

AprilFloundering · 03/04/2020 12:43

"Wow. That was a dick move on your part X. Wind your neck in."

Ohdeariedear · 03/04/2020 12:43

I know you’ve replied but I would have been tempted to say ‘tbh, you publicly shaming us in this manner says more about you than not managing out this week for whatever reason does about me. #bekind’

This sanctimonious virtue signalling going on all over social media is pissing me right off!

DrivingMsCrazy · 03/04/2020 12:43

Well done OP on your reply. I'd have been tempted to reply like others have said along the lines of "Calm down Karen, we are not a police state yet although I'm sure your time to shine may come #1984 #groupthink #shopyourneighbours #Kimlovesyou"

If only this virus took the terminally stupid, eh?

daisyjgrey · 03/04/2020 12:44

EstuaryBird has left the group

HillAreas · 03/04/2020 12:44

I’d reply with a 🖕🏻.
What a virtue signalling twat.

DickClarksNewYearsRockinEve · 03/04/2020 12:44

I’m up for the clapping malarkey...but my GOD she sounds like an insufferable twat.

Ignore her.

Although I’d be tempted to say ‘well done 👏’

BigGee · 03/04/2020 12:44

One of our neighbours started a whatsapp group, which we specifically didn't join so we didn't get dragged into any shit like this. Go and clap if you want to, don't if you don't. I can't see clapping making a shred of bloody difference to the NHS. Does it magically make safety equipment appear? All these fucktwats who are clapping like seals trying to earn a fucking fish at Sea Life Centres are probably the same fucktwats who voted for the political movement that has decimated the nhs over the last decade or so. Well done, chaps and chapesses! Bravo. Clap clap clap.

SissySpacekAteMyHamster · 03/04/2020 12:44

I didnt clap. Love the NHS but dog was stressed due to some tit setting fireworks off.

I'd be stuffing her whatsapp where the sun don't shine!

Dylaninthemovies1 · 03/04/2020 12:45

I clapped. But that’s my choice. Whether you clap is your business alone

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 03/04/2020 12:46

My neighbour had a go at me for not having a rainbow in my window. I'm 39, no kids and haven't owned felt tips or colouring pencils since about 1997 so unless they want a biro rainbow on a post it note they can shut up.

BaconAndAvocado · 03/04/2020 12:46

We were watching National Theatre live, paused it and went to clap.

We live in a cul de sac and about halfof the residents were out.

It's a great sentiment but I would be pissed off if I had young children in bed.

HuggedTheRedwoods · 03/04/2020 12:46

I think the Mrs Clap title is too naice, I'm picturing her as a little self-appointed Corporal Clap, very self important leader of the Cul de Sac Clap Battalion. Every week she'll pin on another clap badge.

PerkyPomPoms · 03/04/2020 12:46

What a loon!

JemSynergy · 03/04/2020 12:47

I'd leave the group but then I wouldn't be on it in the first instance as Id hate for all my neighbours to have my number. I am on a local area facebook group which is fast becoming the place for people to police residents and post photos up of anyone doing something they don't like.

StillMedusa · 03/04/2020 12:47

My DD1 is a doctor ..on the covid wards. DD2 is a nurse. Neither of them give a toss about anyone clapping... they just want to stay alive and do their jobs.
I detest mass shows of any kind, and think it is patronising. Every single member of this household is a key worker and frankly if we are home at 8pm it's a glass of wine not a clapping session with the neighbours!

MerryDeath · 03/04/2020 12:47

i'd respond with something like "i show my support when i go to vote for anyone but the tories"

madcatladyforever · 03/04/2020 12:49

OMG what an absolute idiot, how dare she name and shame on social media, what a nerve. I think I'd be round there with a baseball bat.
People really are tossers. I'm NHS and am finding all this clapping outside my house a bit too much.

puds11 · 03/04/2020 12:51

Shamelessly place marking. This is great!

VegetableMunge · 03/04/2020 12:52

I think I'd just reply saying don't be so utterly ridiculous.
