Stopping the spread of the virus

Name changed. I work in old people’s home. Complete lockdown, no visitors, to keep them safe. Still get a bit of harassment from some relatives/friends about not being allowed to visit . Can deal with that. What people need to understand that none of us have immunity. Older people, people with high blood pressure, people with immune system issues, breathing problems and a lot of other health issues are at greater risk. It isn’t just a flu, it can develop into pneumonia- this can be very dangerous and life threatening to some. Your lungs fill up with fluid and you can’t breathe. Hence the respirator. There’s a shortage of respirators, and even if the curve flattens, people are still going to get sick on top of those already sick in hospital. That’s why we need to follow the rules. I think this will get a lot worse before it starts to get better. There are still going to be a lot of people getting sick. Please people, especially those at risk, follow the advice, stay at home. If it’s essential you go out, wash your hands, try not to touch your face and clean your steering wheel, gearstick and door handles when you get home. I still see people out in groups at shopping centres as o pass by, children, babies and elderly. I understand line parents have problems but I’ve seen couples with children and babies. Please take care everyone, be safe and stay well.

YABU not posting this in the coronavirus section

RonnieBarkingMad · 03/04/2020 05:39

What is the point of this post? It’s like a PSA even though everyone already knows. “Stay away from people in case you infect them and elderly people may be more at risk”.. hardly headline grabbing front page news, is it? Truly and honestly, well done for caring for other people in a time of crisis but this didn’t need an AIBU post in the slightest.

narkedoffnurse · 03/04/2020 05:43

Posted in AIBU for traffic, unaware there was a conorovirus section. However, not everyone is getting the message. If it helps one person to think about it and take it seriously, then we’ll and good. Didn’t mean to have the vote thing turned on, quite new to posting. Apologies if it’s old news to some but this virus is serious.

Yes... This is old news... Maybe there are a very few people out there who don't 'get' it. But trust me, they aren't on mumsnet reading this.

We all know all of this Confused so..... We aren't living under rocks!!

RonnieBarkingMad · 03/04/2020 06:14

“Apologies if it’s old news to some but this virus is serious”

Yes. We know.

I appreciate you’ve probably been witness more to selfish and clueless behaviour given the job you do compared to many others on here, but: we know. It doesn’t need a post.

eurochick · 03/04/2020 06:27

Surely it's old news to everyone?!?

narkedoffnurse · 03/04/2020 07:07

I would like to think everyone was aware, but sadly, going by the number of cases still occurring, it’s obvious that not everyone knows. That’s the danger.

I don't think you understand how it works. We haven't been isolated long enough to see a decrease yet.

Actually if you read the news then various people are saying that the lockdown looks like it is working and that they have the r down to under 1.

TheCanterburyWhales · 03/04/2020 07:27

Thank you for the work you do. Flowers

StealthMama · 03/04/2020 07:32

We have a long way to go yet before there is stabilisation in numbers let alone decreasing numbers. It doesn't happen overnight. I'm glad your place of work is following the guidelines and hope you personally do so also when not at work.

happinessischocolate · 03/04/2020 08:37

I'm guessing you just needed to vent OP, it must be incredibly frustrating when you work in the middle of all this and can't tell the relatives to stop being so bloody stupid.

However OP, posting here is a bit like the government constantly saying on daytime TV that we need to stay at home, the people watching daytime TV are staying at home, the stay at home adverts need to be in every billboard not on our TVs

OP, I hope you're employers have given you proper PPE and that you and the residents stay safe.
