Am I being Unreasonable/Insane?

I'm early 40s, in my second year of an NHS allied health degree. My children are all grown up, two at uni, one in year 11 so no childcare issues. I would really love to join the army reserves in my discipline when I qualify. I'm pretty fat and unfit right now but I've been a runner and weightlifter in the past.

Am I being completely unrealistic? Is it too late to get fit again? I've had a pretty stressful few years hence the unfitness and I appreciate times are really tough right now! The upper age limit is 49 which gives me at least 5 years to get in shape.

What do you think? Give it to me straight, I can take it!

Depends on what job role you want to join as in the reserves but honestly at early 40’s I wouldn’t recommend it.

Thanks Squidward it's a medical role, can I ask why you wouldn't recommend it?

You definitely could. You’ve just got to decide if you want to. Getting fit is way easier with a goal in mind. The worst that would happen is it doesn’t go to the original plan so you adapt your plan. But you do so in the best shape you’ve ever been in. That sounds pretty great to me Smile
