...without being competitive?!

Things are rubbish for everyone right now. Why do some people feel the need to make it all into a competition?!

It's just the nature of our country. It sucks. But we're not all like it.

Because we are a materialist consumer society. Fear and uncertainty brings the mask of faux niceties down.

There is literally competition on resources from jobs to food to money... so...

Is it a competition if you don’t compete?

Some people are just miserable fuckers, ignore them OP

I agree OP though sometimes on MN if not IRL, the context drives what looks like a competition. On MN I've commented with an alternative view and some perspective when people started threads with 'their children's lives are being stolen' (guess what, the economic effects of lockdown might be better than not locking down), that 'all children are devastated that their exams are cancelled' (some might but every child I've asked and my DC's are from really happy to overjoyed) and COVID is the worst thing that has happened to the UK in a century (WW2 looks worse in terms of deaths, 1.2m? children and teachers being evacuated, millions of members of the armed forces being conscripted and fighting and dying abroad). All are debatable but to me it looked like the OPs in MN threads who appeared to post with a pretty one sided view then just wanted other posters to agree with them that led to a decline into a 'it's not a competition) comments.
