To fucking love the clap

WouldShouldCould · 02/04/2020 20:20

Now, that's a sentence I didn't think I'd say but I bloody love the clap. My whole village burst to life, people waving (socially distancing) and cheering I know it's twee, I know it won't give those at risk PPE. But it made people feel like a community.

There's always one, honestly

Escapeistheonlyoption · 02/04/2020 20:48

But it made people feel like a community.

I just posted that on the other thread.
I think in part to is the reassurance that other people are out there and the opportunity to feel part of something beyond your own home.

Never thought gonorrhea was so popular!

Well all bar one person I have seen on here claiming to be doctor/nurse etc said they liked it, so I guess like all things, different people like different things

Dita73 · 02/04/2020 20:50

@20wedding19 There's always one, honestly

You clever girl! Did you come up with that all by yourself?

Have a read of these:

Still think it's just 'one', do you?

20wedding19 · 02/04/2020 20:52

@ScarlettBlaize It's so sad that in a time like this you choose to spread hate.
I support my sis in every way I can because she is doing a remarkable job
You seem like a lovely person.

Well this thread wasn't what I thought it was going to be about Blush

Didiusfalco · 02/04/2020 20:56

I don’t see why people get hung up on it being twee etc. Of course some healthcare workers will hate it and some will love it - they’re not a hive mind. In reality it’s a harmless morale boost for a lot of people who are finding it hard being cut off at home. Surely that’s not a bad thing?

Justanotherlurker · 02/04/2020 20:56

This NHS fervour feels like it's getting a bit cultish. I'm a big fan, but it's getting very full on. We used to take the piss about the US chanting U.S.A at every opportunity and yet this has become the latest US import, it's getting sickening with hagiographical aspects being applied just for likes on social media.

DioneTheDiabolist · 02/04/2020 20:56

I know my neighbours. I know they work for the NHS. They loved it. Are you one of those people who dont understand that different people like different things ScarlettBlaize? If so, read all of the threads that you have linked to. Their were NHS workers posting on them to say they originally thought it was naff, but liked it when it happened.Grin

beautifulteeth · 02/04/2020 20:56

❤️

Mumof1andacat · 02/04/2020 20:57

I work for nhs on the wards.i dont agree with this clapping every week. NHS front line put up with lack equipment & staff all the time. The verbal and physical abuse is sickening of which I have been a victim of. I nurse patients who have bugs that I could catch every day. Thank good I leave this month....

20wedding19 · 02/04/2020 20:57

@ScarlettBlaize - For something you say is meaningless you are getting very heated about all this. You seem such an angry person, like a pop said calm down

Thank you to all the key workers and NHS workers out there - I and so many people on this thread DO appreciate your hard work

Thorilicious · 02/04/2020 20:58

It's something that not everyone agrees with, and yes, it won't get equipment for the NHS.
My mil and ds are both nurses on the front line, and they appreciate it.
We need to remember that most people are scared at best, worst terrified about what is happening.
If clapping every week makes people feel useful while in lockdown, and brings a sense of community, then bring it on.

20wedding19 · 02/04/2020 20:59

@Mumof1andacat - I'm sorry you have had this experience. I wish you the best in whatever you choose to do next

ladybee28 · 02/04/2020 21:03

As long as the clapping on a Thursday translates into people voting differently in the next elections, fair enough.

If you clap and then use those same hands to post a ballot for a Tory government, you could do with washing your conscience as well as your hands.

Tana433 · 02/04/2020 21:05

Made me chuckle too. I embarrassed my poor dad tonight after he told me on the phone that he was going out to give all the NHS the clap. I said thats all they need, dont you think they already have enough to deal with?!

It took a minute but it gave us both a giggle.

Willyoujustbequiet · 02/04/2020 21:06

Yes totally agree. Huge turnout where I am. Absolutely fantastic

Very emotional

DrSheldonCooperPHD · 02/04/2020 21:07

the clap is fine and nice - the Facebook posts are slightly annoying.
