I work in retail and I an due back at work tomorrow, my children can go to school whilst I'm at work.. however I only have 1 shift in school times. I am the only staff member with small children and my boss knows this but shes given me shifts that are starting at 3pm or starting at 6pm when I cant take them to school and with the current situation cant have family members at my house to look after them.she has given other staff 10-3 or 9-2. AIBU to ask her to change my shifts with someone else?

Of course YANBU to ask. What's her reaction been if you've asked her before?

Not asked about changing before... shes not very sympathetic to people who have children cos her daughter's grown up now. Shes just s bit hard faced tbh and I'm dreading asking her. Just wondering if she says no what do I do then? Can I just take the time off?

Why can't you ask other people to swap with you? Are the shifts varied between the workers?

Mgby1 · 02/04/2020 21:08

I can ask other people but she will have the final say... shifts not fairly split between staff some of them refuse to do the late shifts and she let's this happen that's why I'm unsure where I stand with not been able to go in.. I cant just leave them home alone!

Well if others are allowed to refuse the late shifts I don't see why you can't refuse also.
