*2000 of 500,000 NHS staff tested.
*Germany performing nearly TEN TIMES the number of tests as the UK. despite the WHO saying for weeks and weeks that they key is to “test test test”
*Continuing shortages of basic PPE for health workers (who are being threatened if they speak out)
*Thousands of people still cramming on to public transport, with not one metre let alone 2 metre distance.
*The Government failing to sign up to the EU ventilator scheme.
*Being one of the last Western countries to close schools and implement any kind of lockdown.

I know it’s tough for everyone but this is a level of criminal negligence from the British government. Absolutely shocking.

I would not be surprised if Tory CCHQ have a collection of accounts here to attack Labour whenever the govt is criticised. They do this on multiple playful line and Boris is starting a department to do this on a more virulent scale. To the point of hacking/ disabling peoples access online if they are too critical of policy.

GinDrinker00 · 02/04/2020 11:17

They can’t get their hands on enough tests. My brother is a NHS nurse and has said the patients in his hospital are only getting one swan test, instead of two.
No point being angry, we can’t exactly go back in time.

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 02/04/2020 11:18

@blossomad
REALLY?

NotACleverName · 02/04/2020 11:19

Jeremy Corbyn lives rent-free in some of your heads, I swear.

This is a thread about the incompetence of the current government and you still bring him up. Pathetic.

koshkatt · 02/04/2020 11:19

I find it amazing that Joe Public is such an expert about how we should have done things, of course we all know that scientists and epidemiologists know absolutely nothing

This. Armchair experts abound unfortunately.

Blossomad · 02/04/2020 11:20

Yes. They want to start an online censorship/ chilling division similar to those used by other countries in the Middle East. They have announced it publicly.

Helmetbymidnight · 02/04/2020 11:21

i think its appalling- staff at my local hospital are in intensive care because they havent got. PPE. 1/4 of them are off with symptoms.
it brings to mind WW1 when the leaders sent out soldiers on horses with swords to get annihilated.
im staggered that people think its going well.

Blossomad · 02/04/2020 11:21

70% of Mumsnet users on this thread agree with OP. Criminal levels of incompetence in this govt regarding their Covid responses regardless of your political views.

koshkatt · 02/04/2020 11:21

God what delusional crap.

"Boris is starting a department to do this on a more virulent scale. To the point of hacking/ disabling peoples access online if they are too critical of policy."
Can you link to the conspiracy site you got that from? I do enjoy those.

Cam77 · 02/04/2020 11:23

@Craackers
“Pipe the fuck down, lad.”
No I won’t actually I’ll keep expressing myself which is my right to do so. And so can you, anonymous sweary person.

Helmetbymidnight · 02/04/2020 11:23

i dont think its trolls, i think people are bizarely obsessed with corbyn and itsblinded them to the arsehole that boris is and all the things he has fucked up.

koshkatt · 02/04/2020 11:23

OkCam how would you have handled things?

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 02/04/2020 11:23

More armchair experts. You seem convinced you are being lied to. Is this constructive in some way? We are clearly moving to the "someone should pay for this" which is endemic in our society. We are in a crisis, is it too much to ask that we all just do our best? Or is it a better idea to spit and snarl at the people who are trying to manage the disaster. Do you not think they have enough to do without playing games. Stats are a minefield and for most of us, not the stuff of getting this over with. We cannot make comparisons with other countries, effectively count cases, only the journalists want this stuff to write their stories

Blossomad · 02/04/2020 11:24

“They do this on multiple platforms online” not playful. Grin

Yes there is a problem with Tory Trolls who post Brexit now flood the internet with anti Corbyn pro Boris propaganda 24/7. Some of them pretend to be black, have dog pics in their profile etc. Some really underhand tactics but always the same message.

bitchonthepitch · 02/04/2020 11:24

I am no fan of this government but OP as you are such a vocal critic I assume you are going to seek to be a parliamentary candidate in the future so you can sort out the mess?

Tulipstulips · 02/04/2020 11:25

Horrified, yes. Flabbergasted? Not so much. Bojo is a self-serving clown, I’m not sure why anyone thought he'd be a credible leader.

LastTrainEast · 02/04/2020 11:25

There has probably been a fair bit of incompetence in the government. I don't have a high opinion of any of them. Still a lot of the complaints have been by people who didn't have a clue why we were doing things a certain way.

We've had people saying lock down should have been 100% until it was over (so no food, power, water at all) and others saying "they won't stop me going where I want"

So there are worse people who could have been in charge.

koshkatt · 02/04/2020 11:25

Just the appallingly woke left that I have a problem with. Too obsessed with identity politics and pronouns to run a country in crisis. That is why I am grateful that we have politicians with at least a passing understanding of reality in charge just now.

BerryCatHolly · 02/04/2020 11:26

Still no mandatory testing or quarantine for arrivals from Spain, Italy etc. Nothing, zero

So you want to divert testing to travellers? What will that achieve? We're past the point where it matters if people are bringing it into the country anyway, its here. If they follow the advice to stay at home, self isolate if they have symptoms I dont see the problem. Secondly although some flights are operating there is barely anyone on them so its not a massive threat any more.

Germany performing nearly TEN TIMES the number of tests as the UK. despite the WHO saying for weeks and weeks that they key is to test test test

Germany and South Korea have made extensive use of private laboratories. Germany uses private providers in its healthcare anyway, something that is cast as a sin here. So yes we are missing out because as soon as private provision is used everyone gets on their high horse about privatising the NHS. Private labs are begging Public Health England to let them test at their labs, but PHE won't so far.

Blossomad · 02/04/2020 11:26

Also they are not clever enough to cover their tracks. WHO guidelines are not being followed. These guidelines save lives. We are in a global
Pandemic and our govts response is beyond inadequate. FACT

koshkatt · 02/04/2020 11:27

We are in a crisis, is it too much to ask that we all just do our best? Or is it a better idea to spit and snarl at the people who are trying to manage the disaster

THIS.

Helmetbymidnight · 02/04/2020 11:27

how is not getting ventilators 'doing the best they can'?

presumably you dont know about the ventilator scandal or you dont believe it because anyone aware of how the govt has fucked this couldnt say they are doing the best they can.

as for gove lying about testing agents, fuck, thats doing the best he can?

Disquieted1 · 02/04/2020 11:27

Germany has only tested half that of South Korea, just think of the incompetence in Berlin!

In fact the UK is 5th worldwide for testing, but the tory bashers won't compare with France, Austria or Norway or any of the other 195 countries with lower testing rates. No, they're more interested in political point scoring.
