To take DS shopping 30 mins away regardless?

Our two lost local shops are no longer allowing DC in. I don't have alternative childcare and his nursery shut for good, even to key workers, as they couldn't afford to stay open.

My mum is a high risk group so couldn't have him. I have no other choice but to take him shopping but the local ones won't allow DC.

There is a little local shop that allows us in BUT the prices are so inflated and shopping, what I could get of it, is now twice the price. Not affordable.

Can't really get a shopping slot. I'm a key worker and not even click and collect is available. AIBU to just to take him shopping that's a good 30 min drive away? We enjoy the drive too. It feels normal.

What's he gonna do, turf your son out on the street if you are late? I would just go after work, much easier shopping without children. It's not like you live with him so have to deal with the mood.

So you work a night shift then collect your young child after work, how do you sleep?

If he stresses if you’re late then send a text politely informing him that you will be around 30 minutes late collecting DS today as you have to get supplies for both you and your DS and as you’re sure he understands you can’t take DS due to the unnecessary risk.

If you are a key worker and need to work are there any other schools that may take your children?
For shopping - there are volunteer groups - it might be worth contacting them to see if they could help.
Another possibility could children stay in car watched by someone else whilst you shop... friend - social distancing but shop at same supermarket at the same time and leave children in car whilst one goes in and other stays by cars.

I hope you find a solution that works for you

Yet again it’s a man being a shit problem.

Go shopping on the way home from work and just say that you were held up at work - which is highly likely at the moment

Like @ragwort, our village scheme is overrun with volunteers, vastly outnumbering those prepared to accept help.

I've volunteered, checked in a couple of times with them. Told to wait til they have something for me. It's a lovely sign, I suppose. 😀
