Son constantly picking up colds. Self isolating for the second time in 3 weeks

Problem. My son is 17 months old and picking up colds here there and everywhere. He's been to the supermarket with me once, and is in contact with another household member who is a key worker. None of us have been sick but my son seems to have his second temp in 3 weeks. Snuffly nose and think it's just a cold. We literally came out of isolation yesterday.... Now back in to isolation again because he has symptoms. He will have to be isolated for 7 days and other household members 14. AIBU to worry about having to isolate over and over and over due to symptoms and going totally insane because of this? I understand we can't be tested because of a shortage of chemicals, but honestly I'm gutted now it's another 14 days at home after 14 done already...

I'll add that second adult in the house works for NHS so will be another 2 weeks he can't work. Even if he is tested eventually, I can't imagine me and my son will be so will have to self isolate regardless? (Not sure about this)

Genuinely feel awful for people who have to stay home for 12 weeks. My sympathies.

Are you sure it's a cold and not rhinitis or allergies? Not that that really helps you now, but I'm just wondering how on earth he managed to pick up a another cold within a day if you're all self isolating?

I’m in the same boat. Second set of self-isolation in 3 weeks. No idea how I caught a cold, but I absolutely did. It’s hard.

Toddlers constantly have snotty colds unfortunately.

Queenjam · 31/03/2020 20:38

Same here except we are all working from home for 3 weeks now. Noone has been in or out and 18 month old has just gotnover second cold. No idea how she could have picked this up.

twinkletits99 · 31/03/2020 20:44

I have no idea. He had a temp for about 6 hours. It's gone now and he's a snot bag. We literally went out yesterday and that's it. 14 days at home for all of us.

In my case, it’s me who’s been ill twice in 3 weeks. Very much not a toddler!

I’ve taken all the precautions - social distancing, hands red raw from extra washing, not going out even to the shops (thank you Brexit stockpile) and I’ve still been grim twice.

Both me and both young DC have had very few weeks without colds over this winter, it’s been relentless. If we’d have had to self isolate every time we wouldn’t have left the house since October or November.
I’m hoping that cold season should be ending now as it’s getting warmer so hopefully this is your last bout of it.
