Following on from the Morrisons thread. Marks are now offering one.

@CeriseClementine can't go out to shop, can't get a standard food delivery.. not many options
People who are shielding are really struggling

canigooutyet · 01/04/2020 01:00

Have any of you seen the complaints about this one 🤣😂🤣

canigooutyet · 01/04/2020 01:02

@ClientQueen
I'm in that same situation you have described. For the value, I will keep looking elsewhere. Cannot afford to spend money on overpriced stuff.

alloutoffucks · 01/04/2020 01:05

I think these contents would really appeal to certain very elderly people.

canigooutyet · 01/04/2020 01:09

@P1nkHeartLovesCake There's three types of chocolate. Another one under the Percy pig thing.
It's random, looks a lot until you start looking and think erm beans with what exactly?
The salmon, again with what some dry rice, the beans or many tins of soup. And again where is the bread or even milk?

bellsbuss · 01/04/2020 01:11

How much are they as it just says sold out .

YourWinter · 01/04/2020 01:26

I would be very seriously disappointed with that selection. What on earth is the attraction of ready made pasta sauce? Or ready made vegetable soup, you can make your own in 20 minutes. Shortbread is for Christmas. Tinned steak? Chocolate buttons AND milk chocolate AND plain chocolate AND peanuts? Surely they're not basing this on any average shopping basket? These aren't even basics.

It's really awful, I'd have been disappointed if this had been put together by Iceland or Farmfoods but it's a very poor show from M&S.

browzingss · 01/04/2020 01:52

M&S’s version would logically follow as being more expensive than Morrison’s box - they’re a more premium supermarket which is why Morrison’s seems like better value for your money. Morrison’s are generally more affordable after all. Theoretically the M&S items should be of high quality and taste amazing, can’t really comment as the items in the box aren’t products I would choose from them (aside from Percy’s!)

browzingss · 01/04/2020 01:57

M&S is my preferred supermarket, I would be interested to see a box with more “quintessentially M&S” items. Would probably be more expensive but the items in this box aren’t very tempting or practical. Hopefully they may tweak the current offerings after the feedback.

canigooutyet · 01/04/2020 04:09

Someone asked how much. £35.
With no bread, potatoes or milk.
At least with the Morrison one it’s easy to make some meals.
This is more like some dodgy food box scheme where you still need to spend more to be able to eat. Never mind the lack of a bar of soap.

To be honest it looks like they are clearing excess stock loool.

g1c2d3 · 01/04/2020 08:35

It’s available now.

Thymeout · 01/04/2020 09:57

I think it's a good selection. They can get everything from the warehouse. No complications with chill-cabinet eat-by ready-meals or daily staples.

A lot of people are in self-isolation because they have health conditions which leave them unable to cook their own pasta sauce or casserole. I'm on oral chemo, live on my own and it's enough to do the washing-up let alone a session with a chopping board.

That reminds me. I have a tin of chunky chicken in white sauce somewhere. I could fancy that with some rice. Smile

1forsorrow · 01/04/2020 10:03

I think all boxes should come with teabags, milk and bread. I wonder what other people think are essentials?

Hadjab · 01/04/2020 11:19

FFS - some people are never satisfied - no one is being forced to buy it, but the fact that it's sold out shows that there clearly is a requirement. At least they are trying, and it helps to take some of the pressure off store staff.

canigooutyet · 01/04/2020 16:32

I have no issue with companies doing boxes. But when they are sending crap out like this, whilst people are trying to find slots for the essentials is a piss-take.
At least Morrisons have the right idea and thought about people needing the essentials.
And chocolate sorry, but it's still on amazon etc if you cannot get out. That's where I've bought junk food from.

StripyHorse · 01/04/2020 17:46

@KenDodd
*Prime corned beef (205g)
Wild Alaskan red salmon (213g)

That's a food box for pensioners isn't it!*

I saw it and thought 'My mum would love that' mainly on the basis of those 2 items!

CatherineOfAragonsPomegranate · 01/04/2020 18:07

Glad you got one @Lindy2Smile

I think all boxes should come with teabags, milk and bread. I wonder what other people think are essentials?

Defo what's stated but also including butter/marg
Cheese
Carton of Juice
Friut and a bit of veg.
Fresh meat in addition to one tinned.

It's supposedly for those who are poorly. Only one sweet treat is necessary.

Thymeout · 01/04/2020 18:36

It's obvious that everything on the list is a store-cupboard staple, not fresh or frozen or from a chill cabinet. If they included perishable items, subject to a use-before date, the whole process would be far more complex and unwieldy.

M&S is not a supermarket. They have only just entered the on-line shopping food market - with Ocado. They don't have the infra-structure for delivering perishable goods.

Best that they stick to what they're good at and can roll out quickly. And, yes, I'd love a quality tin of corned beef or salmon. I could make more than one meal out of those items.
