Error on Notice Period

Jadefeather7 · 31/03/2020 15:05

I’ve noticed an error on my notice period (I’ve been with my employer for many years and the standard notice period for everyone is 12 weeks whereas my contract says 4 weeks). Should I flag this with my employer and look to have it increased? With the current climate Im a bit worried about redundancy. Obviously 4 weeks would be good for a prospective employer if I was looking to move but that’s not my priority right now. Thanks

Personally, I'd keep quiet.
If they are about to make redundancies, they are unlikely to start changing individual contracts, so don't alert them to it.
There is every possibility that if your 4 weeks is a mistaken aberration, they will miss it and pay the standard 12 weeks regardless.
They may be aware, and treat you according to standard 12 weeks paid to long term employees as standard.

True, I don’t know if they are going to make redundancies as we have quite a bit of work on at the moment but given current circumstances you just never know.

If you’ve been there for ages (over 5 yrs) they will not want to make you redundant as it will cost them.

I’ve been there for more than a decade now. I looked at the statutory redundancy pay calculator and it doesn’t seem like it will cost them much!
