Right I know there’s people who would love to be in this position so I’m not complaining, but I’ve been working from home since last Monday along with the rest of my team. Work has totally dried up yet we are required to log on for 8 hours each day as usual. For now we have been told to “file emails” and this has only taken about ten minutes to do! I’m not sure why we haven’t been “furloughed”. I’m currently drinking a gin and tonic and watching Hayu with my laptop propped up on my knees!!! Is anyone else in this position?

All my friends in same position

Don't knock it - you're getting full pay for staying logged on in case something happens.

AntennaReborn · 31/03/2020 15:09

No, it's the opposite for me, we are frantically working to keep things going (railway sector) and working remotely is making it all very difficult.

I have been working much longer days than I normally would

Have a Gin on me OP Smile

MoreGruel · 31/03/2020 15:10

I’m sadly as busy as ever, but since I work in litigation and the courts are now as good as closed I can see it tapering off if this goes on for months.

MoreGruel · 31/03/2020 15:10

I don’t really know why I said sadly. I like being busy!

LoudBatPerson · 31/03/2020 15:11

Unfortunately not. My whole role is computer based so just like a normal day to day work for me but at home instead of the office.

SueEllenMishke · 31/03/2020 15:11

Oh god no. I work at university and this has generated a lot more work for me. Working FT while trying to educate/entertain a 5 year old is exhausting. Both me and DH are shattered already.

BeetrootRocks · 31/03/2020 15:11

Very busy for us.
Finding it hard to focus got a doc appt for tomorrow about mental health.

OurChristmasMiracle · 31/03/2020 15:12

Still very much busy at the moment. Work will be less busy next week. Finance is now tied up for the year. And I’m uploading info to databases once this is done I don’t know what will be required tbh

Autumnwindinthewillows · 31/03/2020 15:13

Just as busy but wfh makes everything so slow that normal stuff takes twice as long.
I lose focus by the afternoon, especially when the sun is out and shining thro the window

hopeishere · 31/03/2020 15:14

Very busy although it's quiet this afternoon which is good. Am sure other members of my team are not busy but pretending they are.

PumpkinPie2016 · 31/03/2020 15:14

Still busy. Remote teaching plus resource writing etc. I also have a 6 year old to do work with/entertain.

All go here. At least it's something to do though.

LakieLady · 31/03/2020 15:15

If only! I finished work at 2.30, and have been replying to benefit enquiries coming in by email all morning, except for 2 periods when I was on a conference call with the rest of the team and a call with my manager.

Tomorrow, I will be answering the dedicated phone line set up so we can advise staff on benefit matters, as so many are suffering a drop in income. And getting on with my own work in between calls.

We seem to be busier than ever.

ComtesseDeSpair · 31/03/2020 15:17

I have very little to do and I am bored. I like being busy and useful at work, it’s why I chose the job I did and bothered to climb my way to management level. I’m still doing a lot of business continuity stuff but it doesn’t take me eight hours a day, and I miss the bustle of the office.

mindutopia · 31/03/2020 15:17

It sounds like you should make the most of it and use the time to plan for/brace for what's next. I work from home a couple days a week normally anyway, and I most certainly am just as busy as always - except I have a toddler running around screaming and a school age dc to homeschool. And dh is alternately doing the same on other days while trying to keep a business from crashing and burning.

We do sometimes do this while drinking gin and tonic though. But I wouldn't say that is significantly different from usual.

PontiacBandit · 31/03/2020 15:17

No, I've been super busy for the last 3 weeks. Its unusual work that is a one off company overhaul, I'd have had to do it if I was in office so not related to wfh or cv. If anything it's been easier as I've been able get replies and information straight away from the directors, without the usual delays.

It will all die down soon to a few hrs a day and then I'll get on with studying.

Wolfff · 31/03/2020 15:23

Unfortunately not! I am a civil servant and pretty much everything I do is online - at least in the short term. It’s a very inefficient way to work as I have a Surface Pro with a smallish screen. All my colleagues seem to manage but I am so slow! I have had to invest in a monitor which is arriving tomorrow.

Bluesheep8 · 31/03/2020 15:24

No. It's non stop for me. Exactly the same as in the office, just in a different place. I'm very glad it's like that though, I need the routine and it stops me worrying atm.

autumnmum · 31/03/2020 15:24

I'm busier than normal and trying to deal with two kids and husband at home! I'm getting a bit fed up with all the news stories about what to do with all your extra free time Grin

browzingss · 31/03/2020 15:25

Not for me (financial analyst)

skippy67 · 31/03/2020 15:26

I'm a civil servant and have very little to do at the mo. Just as well really because my laptop ( surface pro) really isn't up to much.

WobblyAllOver · 31/03/2020 15:28

Same amount of work for me but then I do work from home regularly anyway.

UpperLowercaseSymbolNumber · 31/03/2020 15:28

I’m much busier with work than usual due to impacts of Cv. Trying to deal with the kids, get them some form of education and people from time zones to Asia to US I think my head might fall off with the stress.

altiara · 31/03/2020 15:29

No, I can work at home or office, no difference except lack of office set up with proper desk/chair/printer/weekly fruit baskets.
At home, I also spend time shouting at kids to stop watching YouTube in between meeting after meeting. Currently have loads of work but except it to drop right down.

Ronnie27 · 31/03/2020 15:30

Sadly not. And I’ve got the kids home “schooling” on top. Wine
