Right I know there’s people who would love to be in this position so I’m not complaining, but I’ve been working from home since last Monday along with the rest of my team. Work has totally dried up yet we are required to log on for 8 hours each day as usual. For now we have been told to “file emails” and this has only taken about ten minutes to do! I’m not sure why we haven’t been “furloughed”. I’m currently drinking a gin and tonic and watching Hayu with my laptop propped up on my knees!!! Is anyone else in this position?

DH and DS1 are working 8/9 hours M-F WFH. I barely know they are here. DS also worked several hours over the weekend. DS2 OTOH doesn’t have enough to do as a lot of his job can only be done on site.

RoseLalique · 31/03/2020 17:22

Me - I feel really guilty though! 🍷

dudsville · 31/03/2020 17:22

I've been doing over time to keep up on my normal work load plus that added by the virus!

LinesmanMinnelli · 31/03/2020 17:28

Busier - been redeployed (local government) to the COVID19 response so learning a brand new role

sandragreen · 31/03/2020 17:29

I'm on 80% pay yet working days, evenings and weekends.

@mia1415 apologies if I have misunderstood but do you mean you are on 80% Furlough pay but still working? If so your Employer is committing fraud. The furlough scheme is for workers who cannot currently work, like in clothes shops/cafes etc

I'm working 12-14 hours a day WFH, but then I was doing the same this time last year, and the year before that etc so not much has changed! (I'm self employed, always WFH)

WTF0ver · 31/03/2020 17:32

Very busy, getting more stuff heaped on me over the last few weeks. Got noisy fucker neighbours making it hard to concentrate too. FML

choc71 · 31/03/2020 17:32

No. I'm a teacher. So far I've uploaded lessons for every class for every day. Now I need to train myself to

  • use Zoom to make grammar videos
  • work out how to record my voice over a powerpoint
  • use breakout screens with Microsoft Teams as well as
  • curriculum plan for September
  • mark all work handed in
  • answer any and all queries on Google Classrooms as they come in
  • track who has / has not done the work and be a housewife and make sure my own three children are doing the work they have been set I'm sure it will all settle down soon. At least my ICT skills will be amazing!!
SecondaryBurnzzz · 31/03/2020 17:41

no OP I'm quite busy too, thank goodness, because I'd be worried about redundancy if I didn't have anything to do.

Can you do some training (LinkedIn learning is good) or do an online course in project management for example, or ask your boss if there are any projects you can work on? Can you set up some groups on Teams to keep in touch with your colleagues? Have a look on your intranet and see whats going on at the top of your organisation and try to read up on it. Or see what your competition are doing. You could use this as a time to really improve your skills and position in the company, or find a new job.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 31/03/2020 17:50

Gone from 2 days to 5 days, slow broadband and a dispersed team communi acting via what's app to nursing shifta and to get new starters up and running is interesting

HappySonHappyMum · 31/03/2020 18:06

Wish I had more to do - I've been working from home for the last 18 years as a graphic designer. This is the slowest I've ever been. I hate it. Like to keep busy and I hate that its so slow but work has dried up, all the sectors I usually work with are furloughing their staff which has a knock on effect...

Flixsfoilball · 31/03/2020 19:30

I wish! We seem to be busier than ever - I've been glued to my laptop for 12 hours a day

blue25 · 31/03/2020 19:32

Working on full pay from home, but in reality doing 1-2 hours a day. It’s great!

ScrapThatThen · 31/03/2020 19:37

I'm busy, also everything takes ages because doing it in new ways, but unlike you discouraged from logging on because the VPN can't take it. I'm working about an hour extra a day.

jupiterswings · 31/03/2020 19:46

That was me last week and now I'm on furlough unexpectedly .
Panicking about everything as dh about to take a massive pay cut.
Glad some people are doing well though. Jealous

anonacatchat · 31/03/2020 19:47

Nope I'm busier than I am in the office , as I work the time I would be commuting

shinyredbus · 31/03/2020 19:49

Count yourself lucky. I have two children both under 5, work is insane and we’ve had to resort to 630am meetings so we get some work done before the kids get up. Then we work at 7pm-1/2am to catch up.

DefConOne · 31/03/2020 19:55

I’m NHS so as busy as ever with a slow network, none of my files or my colleagues to discuss work stuff with face to face. The children are educating themselves on my work days (or not).

Ginfordinner · 31/03/2020 19:55

I'm busy, also everything takes ages because doing it in new ways, but unlike you discouraged from logging on because the VPN can't take it. I'm working about an hour extra a day.

I have that problem, plus the added issue that I don't have access to work's VPN. We are using Office 365 and Teams, but it isn't the same as having my work PC with two large screens and access to all the other software that I use at work.

DefConOne · 31/03/2020 19:57

I’m very happy to be in secure employment despite the stress.

Sushiroller · 31/03/2020 20:07

I'm doing 12 hour days and barely get a lunch break as the business is in turmoil but i dont care as i am genuinely super happy to:

  • still be employed / have a job
  • getting a bonus (It is ring fenced)
  • know they won't be making any redundacies
ooooohbetty · 31/03/2020 20:08

Absolutely not. Much harder working from home and really really busy because everything takes longer. I hate it.

Crickets · 31/03/2020 20:10

Absolutely not. We are crazy busy. Sticking with 10 hour days because I don't want to burn out.

twinkletits99 · 31/03/2020 20:12

Very busy here. Trying to WFH and entertain toddler. Would hate to have nothing to do. Half way between the two would be nice!
