Its my birthday today...An old friend posted on Facebook not to wish me happy birthday but to ask why i wasn't working in a hospital atm.

I am a 2nd year radiography student and our skills aren't up to scratch...wtf? Some friend. Joy thieves lots of people.

I know what you mean, it's worked both ways though, people I thought wouldn't be interested in helping others have been the first on the scene. Try to enjoy your birthday and don't dwell on it, these are crazy times and it's sent people into a spin.

Happy Birthday 🎂🥂 hope you manage some celebration today. Ignore her, there's plenty about like that. I have care experience, but work in hospitality. I'm furloughed and therefore can't work anywhere else for a wage unless I resign. I don't want to resign because I came out of care for a reason. I have volunteered with local schemes and NHS, and have offered bank work - on a voluntary basis only because I am getting paid, to old care homes I worked in if they need it.
Been called selfish for not going back into care full time - that would not only mean a big drop in income which will put me in debt, but means that when all this is finally over I've left a job I could have gone back to and likely lose the job I took because the need will drop again. Wouldn't be a sensible move.
I'm more than happy to volunteer the time and skills I have, but there doesn't seem to be the mechanism for me to be able to without taking an actual post.

Not birthday related but yes, as frontline staff, I am re evaluating the integrity of some of my friends/family wrt to their use of social media to make everybody aware of how much they are enjoying their "enforced holiday"

On my 18th birthday my friend called, I answered thinking she was going to wish me a happy birthday, instead she just asked me how she could get the morning after pill quickly I told her what to do and she said thanks! Hung up, no mention of happy birthday!

I think that any life changing events show you who your real friends and family are. 6 years ago I had a very big life changing event I soon found out who was there for me. I have family who I thought would have been to see me /rang haven't done in years.
The pandemic is probably going to see many people adjust their social circles. Some relationships will become stronger some stop all together.
